The UK is signed up to the OECD Model Reporting Rules for Digital Platforms (MRDP). This is legislation that impacts electronic distribution platforms or EDPs. These include online platforms like Airtasker and others that supply services such as asset hire, food delivery, and ride-sourcing.
The introduction of this legislation means that Airtasker is now required to collect and report certain information to HMRC, including income earned through the platform.
As the sharing economy continues to grow, the MRDP aims to build transparency around transactions on electronic platforms like Airtasker and is designed to help taxpayers be compliant with their tax obligations while ensuring a level playing field with traditional businesses.
Due to recent legislative changes, electronic distribution platform operators, like Airtasker, are required to collect certain information and report on earnings made through Airtasker to HMRC.
To find out more about transactions reportable under the MRDP, visit the HMRC website.
To help us comply with these new obligations, Taskers will be required to complete an easy, 2-step account verification process:
For more information on how to verify your account, please visit the Airtasker Help Centre.
