What does a driveway cleaning service include?
Most driveway cleaning services start with an assessment and pre-treatment before pressure cleaning and an optional protective coating. But it’ll depend on your driveway type and what you need done. Here are the most common steps involved in cleaning a driveway:
Step 1: Pretreat driveway
Your driveway cleaning professional will start by assessing your driveway to determine the materials used, the condition, and the best treatments to get it clean. Usually, they’ll start by pre-treating any stains by applying a cleaning solution or mould killer to your driveway so you get the best possible result. Common driveway stains include oil and grease stains from cars, tree stains, and mould. They may also remove weeds, grass, and moss growing in any cracks, or over the edges of your driveway.
Step 2: Driveway pressure cleaning
Nearly all solid driveways are suited to pressure cleaning. That is, concrete, brick, asphalt, pebblecrete, and paved driveways. Your cleaner will work in sections - usually from the top of your driveway (closest to your house) down to the bottom of your driveway (closest to the road). Driveway pressure cleaning blasts away any debris from the surface, leaving your driveway clean and fresh - just like it looked when it was first installed.
Step 3: Seal driveway
Once your driveway has dried, your technician may recommend sealing your driveway with a treatment. This will help protect your driveway from future stains and help it look good for longer. It’s optional, but something that many driveway cleaning professionals offer as part of the service. Depending on your driveway type, you can choose a topical sealing (gloss or matt surface sealant), penetrating sealing (protects from the inside out), or colour sealing (gloss or matt paint designed for concrete driveways and garages). Your cleaner will use a roller to apply a quality sealer in multiple coats for full coverage and a long-term result. They’ll advise you on drying times so you know when you can safely use your driveway again.
