Top Clothesline Installation related questions

You should check when you buy your clothesline whether it can be installed on the type of wall or fence you have. Some clotheslines may not be installed on a Hebel or weatherboard wall, as they don't offer enough support. Your local council may also restrict clothesline installation on a fence.

When choosing a clothesline, you should consider how much laundry you need to dry and how much space you have outside. A rotary clothesline can be ideal for a large family that needs plenty of space for clothes, while a fold-down clothesline can be a great space-saver in smaller gardens.

If your clothesline needs to fit into a narrow space, your installer may be able to cut it down to the size you need. Some companies offer custom clotheslines that can be designed to your specifications, sometimes at no extra cost.

The standard height of a clothesline installation is 1.8 metres from ground level, but you can tell the installer if you would prefer it higher or lower. If your clothesline is being wall mounted, it's recommended that the brackets are attached 50mm higher than the person who will mainly be using it.

If you have an existing clothesline, most installers will take down and dispose of this for you, but this may cost extra. This does not normally include removing a concrete base. If this service is not offered, you will have to dispose of the clothesline yourself.

The cost of installation will depend on where your clothesline is being installed and any other services you need, such as drilling or rock breaking. The average cost of clothesline installation and repair on Airtasker is from $60 to $120.

What do Clothesline Installation & Repair services include?

Clothesline Installation and repair services include installing common clotheslines, such as the rotary clothesline and wall-mounted clothesline. For rotary clotheslines, this includes digging a hole in your outdoor space to anchor it, positioning the clothesline and filling the gap with concrete. After the rotary clothesline is installed and the concrete has dried, the clothesline head is put in place.

As for the wall-mounted type, this includes positioning and bolting the wall brackets onto an exterior wall and threading the clothesline wires. Clothesline repairs include replacing damaged or missing clotheslines and replacing damaged brackets or clothesline heads. Note that you must supply the clothesline and a bag of concrete, gravel, digging tools and water when having a rotary clothesline installed.

Installing Rotary Clothesline

A handyman can install a new rotary clothesline for you in your backyard. Decide on the best spot to place this, as they will have to dig a hole at which the rotary clothesline’s pole will be anchored. At the spot you have chosen, the fixer will dig the hole then put the clothesline’s pole in place, ensuring that it is perfectly straight using spirit levels.

The handyman will then fill the void with a mix of concrete, a bit of gravel and some water.  After the concrete has set, they complete the installation by attaching the clothesline head and extending it.

Installing Wall-Mounted Clothesline

As for the wall-mounted type, a handyman will first bolt on the mounting brackets on an external wall of your choice. While taskers will usually have all the tools and safety equipment, refer to the instructions and requirements of your wall-mounted clothesline. You can advise a handyman of what tools they need for the job.

You aren’t obligated to do so, but you can lend tools or safety equipment. After the wall mounts are bolted on, they will proceed to place the front bar. They will complete the installation by stringing the wire or rope through the front bar.

Clothesline Repair

A handyman can also perform simple repairs to either type of clothesline, whether it’s a rotary or wall-mounted type. They can replace the clothesline wire or rope, fix damaged wall-mounted brackets or transfer a rotary clothesline to a new spot if its current anchor has weakened and caused it to become misaligned.
