On average, mobile locksmiths chargebetween $90 and $160 per hour

. The cost may vary depending on labour, lock parts, and travel.

When you request a 24 hour local locksmith through Airtasker, they may be able to get to your location in an hour or so. The actual lock-picking can take anywhere from a minute to an hour, depending on the lock/s. The great thing about booking through Airtasker is that it takes only minutes to find an available specialist, which means less time spent waiting outdoors.

First, Airtasker guarantees transparent and honest reviews from customers just like you. When you hire a mobile locksmith through our platform, you get to read through customer testimonials even before confirming the appointment. Next, we encourage you to ask for identification once the locksmith arrives. They will also ask you for proof of ownership, so everyone should be covered in security.

To prove that you own your home, the locksmith may request a copy of the deed to your home, an ID with your address, or mail with your address on it. Or, they may ask your landlord or neighbours to verify that you are indeed locked out of your home. On the other hand, an auto locksmith may request to see your car’s title, so it’s best to keep this handy in your glovebox.

Yes. Whether you lost your master key due to theft or negligence, it is best to get an expert to replace your door locks for your safety. A local locksmith could do this by changing the entire lock or rekey it instead (i.e. change an aspect of the lock without dismantling it entirely). If you’re considering improving your home security and decor by installing a new door, you can also find a Tasker nearby who can help you.

Yes, it would help if you changed the locks whenever you move into a new home. This includes new flats and previously-owned homes. If you are renting, make sure that your landlord has changed the locks - it is their responsibility to you as their tenant, and it also helps secure their property. Need help clearing out your old place? You can find affordable furniture removalists through our platform.

Yes, some Auckland locksmiths may be able to provide you with master key cutting services. Key cutting is more affordable than having to change the locks in your home or vehicle. If you’d like to set an appointment with a trusted master key cutter near you, simply place this in your task post.

You may need lock replacement if your lock is severely damaged, such as a broken keyhole or irreparable internal components. If the lock is only experiencing minor issues like stiffness or occasional jamming, repair may suffice. Consider replacement for older, unreliable locks or if security is compromised despite repairs.

Top Auto Locksmith related questions

Most likely, they won’t. This is because auto locksmiths have several methods that won’t cause any damage to your car. These include using a slim jim, wedge, or jiggler - so instead of breaking your car’s window, request a local auto locksmith through Airtasker. You’ll get into your vehicle and avoid any unnecessary damage.

This depends. Usually, if what you need is an ordinary key (for cars made before 1954) or a transponder key, the auto locksmith may be able to create a new car key even without the original. Note that they will ask for your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and proof of ownership before they cut and program a new key for you.

Yes, though it will depend on the type of locking mechanism your vehicle has. Some methods include using a shoelace, coat hanger, or a rod and screwdriver. You can also take a page out of an auto locksmith’s book and use a slim jim or a wedge. While results may vary, a sure-fire way to open the door without a key is to contact an automotive locksmith near you.

Rekeying is more budget-friendly than changing the locks of your car. This is because rekeying only involves a bit of labour on the part of the auto locksmith. Changing locks, on the other hand, requires labour and parts. Either way, you can use Airtasker to find a locksmith who can do these tasks for you. And that’s not all! Our platform can also help you find car detailing experts to see to your other automobile needs.

Yes, you can definitely try rekeying a lock yourself. To do this, you’ll need a rekeying kit specific to your car’s model, make, and year. This kit includes several keys and tools that will help you change how the lock works without dismantling the entire lock mechanism. But while you can DIY a rekeying job, it’s safer (and faster) to ask a local auto locksmith instead.

First, locate the screws on your steering column, unscrew them, and remove the plastic trim. This exposes the ignition switch. Remove the bolts and screws connecting the ignition switch to the steering column to unlock the steering wheel. Then, remove the screws connecting the wires and mechanical part of the ignition. Finally, insert a Phillips-head screwdriver into the keyhole and turn it as if it were a key. If this doesn’t work, consider booking a driver instead.

Top Lock Repair related questions

It’s normal to wonder or worry about your locksmith’s credibility. Airtasker connects you to services from trained, experienced, and trustworthy mobile locksmiths near you. Our platform has a transparent ratings system, with reviews written by real customers. Airtasker Pay also ensures that your money stays secure until your Tasker has completed the task. You can release payment only after the job has been completed.

A good lock responds well to its key. If you have trouble turning the key or if your key gets stuck frequently, then most likely you already need to call a lock repair service near you. Also, older locks tend to feel frozen or jammed frequently. Instead of forcing a key into a frozen lock, call and consult a mobile locksmith before your door lock or window lock become permanently damaged.

Lock repairs entail fixing or replacing internal mechanisms within the lock. If you’re looking to replace a lock altogether, your Tasker can remove your old lock and reinstall a new one altogether. You may need a lock repair service if your lock has frozen parts. However, if you’ve experienced a break-in or a robbery, then most likely you will need a lock replacement. Burglars often damage your door or vault locks beyond repair.

This all depends on how many locks need to be repaired or how severe the damage is. Typically, mobile locksmiths are trained to assess and repair damage within half an hour or a little longer. However, if your lock needs to be replaced, then lock replacement can take up to a few hours. Consult with your Tasker and be sure to give them as many details as possible, so that they can complete their task as quickly and efficiently as they can.

Airtasker makes it easy for you to get in touch with a professional near you. If you’re locked out of your home or your car, stay calm. Carefully read reviews posted by other customers, post your task on Airtasker and get offers within a few minutes. You can find a mobile locksmith near you so that they can get to you as soon as possible.

Yes, most definitely! Remember that this depends on how much damage your old lock has suffered in the past few years. Weathering, erosion, and mishandling are all factors that contribute to lock damage. In some cases, it would be better to call for a lock replacement service or lock installation service so that you can look forward to better security for your property.

What do locksmith services include?

Locksmith services typically include assistance with accessing your home, vehicle, office, or other property when you’ve lost or misplaced your keys.

A master locksmith may also provide key cutting, lock and key repair, lock and key replacement, and 24-hour service. Each Tasker’s offerings may vary, so be sure to specify what you need when you put up a task post.

Mobile Locksmith

While some locksmiths may have brick-and-mortar shops where you can get your keys cut or repaired, mobile locksmiths go to your location and assist you from wherever you are. So when you request a master locksmith through our platform, chances are you’ll be working with a mobile locksmith. They’ll travel to your home, office, or even the car park you’re in, then help you gain access even without your keys.

Emergency Locksmith

Need a locksmith ASAP? You can easily find affordable 24-hour locksmith services through Airtasker. These locksmiths are typically available even after “regular” hours and know that there’s nothing more panic-inducing than being locked out of your own home late at night. Emergency locksmiths can also help you if your house has been broken into, and you need to replace the locks ASAP.

Some may also specialise in opening safes, recoding electronic keypad locks, and reprogramming transponder car keys.

Auto Locksmith

Auto locksmiths specialise in security and access to vehicles, including cars, vans, and motorcycles. For example, if you’ve locked your car keys inside the vehicle, chipped the master key, or need tech support for a smart key, request an auto locksmith near you. These specialists can travel to your garage, the car park, or wherever you’re located.

Auto locksmiths aren’t the only automobile specialists you can find on Airtasker. You can also book a mobile mechanic who can check your vehicle right in your driveway or garage.

Lock and Key Replacement

Part of securing your home, car, or other property includes changing the locks and keys. It’s a good idea to change these when you’ve moved houses or lost your keys. For example, if your home was recently robbed, you’d want to get this done ASAP.

And if you’re a landlord, you’ll need to change the lock and key every time a tenant moves out. Airtasker helps you find local lock and key replacement specialists for your home, car, and more. They may dismantle the old lock entirely or modify it so that you’ll need a new key to access it - but without tearing down the entire lock.

Lock and Key Repair

Frozen door locks chipped keys, and latches that don’t work all make your home a bit more vulnerable to intruders. Our platform helps you find master locksmiths who can repair locks and keys quickly and conveniently.

You can request lock and key repair experts for your car, doors, and even your windows. And in case it’s not just your door locks that needs fixing, you can also use Airtasker to find a local handyperson to fix your door
