Top Mirror Hanging related questions

For mirrors of around 15-22 kg, it’s best to use Monkey or Gorilla Hooks. All you need to do is push and twist them into the wall - no tools required! Another advantage of these special hooks is that they leave minimal damage. If you ever decide to remove the mirror, you’ll only leave a tiny hole behind. If you want other options for hanging your heavy mirror, you can book a professional mirror hanger to help you out.

Start by choosing the right anchor for the mirror you’re about to hang. Ideally, this anchor should be made of metal. Then, drill into the mortar between the bricks and insert the anchors into the holes. Tap them gently with a mallet until they’re fully inserted. Then, hang the mirror onto the wall. If necessary, use screws to attach the mirror onto the anchors. For assistance with your brick wall, consult with a mirror fitting expert near you.

You can use heavy-duty mounting tape or hooks for hanging mirrors without the use of nails. Hooks only make tiny holes, and some products don’t even require you to use a drill - just insert them into the wall. If your landlord won't allow you to modify your walls, you can go for heavy-duty mounting tape instead (and take note of the weight the tape can carry).

There are two ways to do this: mounting clips or adhesive. When using mounting clips, make sure that you leave enough space for the mirror to slide into. Also, make sure that the clips are aligned with each other and that the mirror will hang straight. Adhesive strips or glue are a bit simpler to use - prepare the back of the mirror, apply the adhesive, and hang it on the wall.

Your mirror mounting clips need to fit the weight of your mirror and the thickness of the glass. Usually, the manufacturer’s guide will tell you what weight or thickness a particular kind of mounting clip can handle. If you need help picking out the right type of mounting clip, consider using Airtasker to book a mirror hanging handyman near you.

You can do this quickly and easily here on Airtasker. To start, tap the “Post a task” button. We’ll be asking for the details of your request, such as when you want the job done, your budget, the kind of mirror to be hung, and the surface you want to attach it to. Then, select “Get quotes” and wait for the offers to come in. In just a few minutes, you’ll be in touch with multiple mirror fitters near you.

What does a mirror installation service include?

Your mirror hanging service includes all the steps needed to get your mirror off the ground and safely mounted on the wall. Some of the most commonly requested mirror installations include:

Mirror wall mounting

Your installer will first check the weight of your mirror to choose a suitable hanging solution. They’ll also assess your walls to see how much weight they can support. Depending on the result, they’ll either choose hooks, cleats or adhesive to hang your mirror. Your installer will also confirm the best location for your mirror based on eye height, the room layout, studs, and wall space. They’ll mark the spot with a pencil.

If they’re hanging the mirror using hooks connected to the mirror’s D-ring or wire, they’ll measure the spot where the hook needs to go in order to achieve the appropriate height. Then they’ll use a drill to attach the hook(s) to the wall. Your mirror installer may choose to add a wall anchor if your mirror is reasonably heavy and they’re unable to screw into a stud. Finally, they’ll hang the mirror and clean the surface to remove fingerprints.

Bathroom mirror installation

The first step of bathroom mirror hanging is to prep the surface by wiping the wall down and removing dirt and dust. Next, your installer will measure and mark out the position of the new mirror, ensuring the edges match up with the splash-backs and/or the mirror sits centrally above the vanity. Then they’ll attach double-sided adhesive tape to the back of the mirror, before removing the backing and pushing the mirror onto the wall so that it lines up with the markings. Finally, your bathroom mirror will be finished off with silicone around the edges to help strengthen the bond to your wall.

Heavy mirror hanging

Hanging heavy mirrors involves some extra care to ensure the wall and fixings are strong enough to hold up over time. Aside from looking for appropriately rated hooks and wire, the biggest difference involves using a stud finder to mark out the location of any studs. From there, your mirror installer will choose a suitable spot for your mirror that has good access to a stud. They’ll ensure the screws securing your hooks to the wall go straight into the studs. Then they’ll hang your mirror, ensuring the wire slips over the hook and adjusting your mirror to straighten it.

Magnifying mirror wall mounting

Wall-mounted magnifying mirrors are popular for bathrooms and powder stations for shaving and makeup. Fortunately, these mirrors are relatively simple to install. Your handyman will mark out the height and find the nearest stud. They’ll drill holes and screw in the mirror’s mounting plate.
