There are a lot of benefits - for starters, you can book anywhere with a device that has internet access. You also don’t have to exert much effort to find a mirror repairman, as Taskers approach you when you post a job on Airtasker. You can even find a Tasker to do the complex and unusual job of resilvering a mirror you’d instead restore and prefer not to throw out.
No, you aren’t obliged to supply these to your repairmen for your mirror service. Your mirror repairmen are experienced and skilled at what they do and come prepared with the tools and equipment to do the job. But if you have any tools or equipment you think can make the mirror service go easier, feel free to lend these to them.
The time it takes to do a mirror repair service depends on the speed of the Tasker and on the job’s complexity. If the situation is a simple removal of a small scratch or filling a small crack, this can take less than an hour. More complex and demanding tasks like resilvering a mirror can take a day or two, as drying the new silver or aluminium layer alone can take hours.
Yes! If you do mirror repairs yourself or run a business that offers this, you can hire Taskers to assist you. You can make this part of a furniture repair, windows and doors repair or even part of your bathroom renovation business. Hire Taskers to help you take on more jobs than you or your staff can handle. Be clear about what you want from Taskers, and why you are hiring them for the job to avoid any confusion.
That depends on the severity of the damage. You can still repair superficial scratches, cloudy smudges and small cracks. But if the mirror has too many breaks or shards, it’s better to replace it. If the damage is minor, you can fix the mirror yourself with a store-bought repair kit or hire a repair specialist to do it for you.
It depends. In the past, damaged bathroom mirrors or other mirrors would simply be discarded. Now, small cracks, scratches or cloudy smudges on mirrors can be repaired. It would be best if you first had your damaged bathroom mirror inspected by a repair specialist before throwing it away. They can tell you if it can still be restored, saving you money and the trouble of buying and installing a new bathroom mirror.

What do mirror repair services include?

Mirror repair services include all the tasks necessary to restore cracked, cloudy or scratched mirrors. If damage to the mirror is too extensive (repairs or mirror restoration is impossible), your repairman can replace the mirror glass.

With this mirror service, you don’t have to discard or replace mirrors as you would before. Bring new life to most types of mirrors, whether they be hand-held, large and portable, or mounted on your bathroom wall.

Cracked mirror repair

Mirror repairmen can restore a cracked mirror with a store-bought kit the repairman may bring, or you can supply. The process begins with cleaning the mirror of dust, dirt and glass fragments. Your repairman applies stabiliser around the crack, then uses resin via a special syringe placed on the centre of the film; the resin is allowed to dry.

Next, the repairman applies resin adhesive on the resin-filled crack, then places a curing film over the resin adhesive. After curing for another hour, your repairman removes the film. The repairman scrapes off the excess resin with a utility knife or razor blade. A glass cleaner application and rubdown finishes the cracked mirror repair.

Cloudy mirror repair

For cloudy mirror repair, your hired mirror specialist can use different methods. They can use a cleaning solution of diluted white vinegar, spraying it on and wiping off with old newspaper. Another technique involves jewellery polish that makes micro-abrasions on the surface and removes the cloudy smudges.

Some specialists can wipe the mirror with water and a microfibre cloth, bearing down on the mirror as they rub off the smudges.

Mirror scratch repair

For mirror scratch repair, repairmen can remove scratches by rubbing abrasive compounds such as a jewellery-polishing compound to smooth out mirrors. For deep scratches, they may use power tools to grind, buff, and polish scrapes away.

Mirror glass replacement

When the damage to your mirror is irreparable, your mirror repairman can replace the glass. They remove the existing mirror from its frame or mount, then install a new pane of glass. Some mirror repair specialists can perform the mirror and glass cutting if the new pane is too large or you wish to customise the size or shape.

Resilvering mirrors

To resilver a mirror, the repairman removes the top layer of glass from your mirror’s frame, then removes the reflective layer of silver or aluminium with a dissolving chemical, usually nitric acid. They then clean and polish the mirror surface for resilvering. A special sprayer is used to apply the aluminium or silver layer, then left to dry for several hours.

If requested, your mirror repair specialist can apply an extra layer of copper paint to enhance the new silver or aluminium layer’s reflective properties. The mirror is finally put back in its frame.
