What does a bathroom renovation include?
Experienced handymen, plumbers, and builders can help with small cosmetic changes to your bathroom. They’ll replace showerheads, taps, fit a shower screen door, or even plumb your toilet. But if you’re looking for a complete bathroom overhaul, you need a bathroom renovation specialist. Here’s what you can expect when working with bathroom renovation contractors and tradies:
Step 1. Quote and planning
Your bathroom renovator will normally need to visit your property to create an accurate quote. They’ll base their costings on the size of your bathroom, how long the project will take (usually 13-25 days for a whole bathroom renovation), and materials needed. You’re responsible for choosing and ordering any new fixtures and fittings - bath, toilet, units, tiles, etc. These should be paid for and delivered before the building start date. Your contractor will sent through the quote and draw up a blueprint for all tradespeople to work from, to ensure the project is kept on track.
Step 2. Demolishing your old bathroom
Builders and demolition professionals will strip out your old bathroom and knock through any walls. They’ll remove fixtures and either bin them, put them into storage, or cover them up so they’re protected during building work.
Step 3. Prep for new bathroom
Next, your plumber and electrician will carry out a rough-in fit. This means putting plumbing and electrical wiring in place without connecting it. Next, your carpenter, plasterer, and tiler will build or prepare your walls and floor for decorating. This can take 2-5 days depending on the size of your bathroom and drying time needed for plastering, rendering, and your undercoat of paint. Â Â
Step 4. Adding your new fixtures
Here you’ll really see your new bathroom come to life. First, your tiler will lay tiles and your painter will paint the walls. Once these are dry, your new bathroom furniture can be moved in. Your plumber and electrician now complete any connections. Your contractors will apply waterproofing and sealant around sinks, showers, and bathtubs. Finally, glass fixtures, like mirrors or shower doors, are installed.
Step 5. Final inspection and clean
With everything installed and dry, your bathroom renovator will carry out a final inspection. They’ll clear away and dispose of any bits leftover by the tradies. Your contractor might complete a basic clean, but you might also want to book a renovation cleaning service so your new bathroom is absolutely spick and span.
