2013 Holden Captiva 7 (Auto, petrol). I brought my car to a local mechanic after hearing a weird "clapping" sound coming from the front of the car/engine. He told me the engine is completely wasted (or about to at least), something with the pistons firing/breaking (unsure exactly, my knowledge is limited). He said there's no point in trying to repair or replace the engine for this car. And that I shouldn't drive it anymore as it can break any minute, leave a huge oil spill and even be dangerous with the pistons shooting out (at the passenger). I'm hoping to get a second opinion/inspection on whether this is correct. If repairing or replacing the engine I'm also open to exploring that as I do love the car and it actually only has 120K km. Let me know if you need any additional info. Unsure about what the budget needs to be, and of course, if we move to repair I understand it will be more expansive than just getting an inspection.

I have a 2018 Honda Dio. When I stop my scooter at stop signs or stop lights, the engine shuts off and I have to turn it back on again in order to keep moving. I have idling on, so I’m not sure why it’s doing this. Otherwise, it drives just fine. I can bring it to you to get it looked at or if you can come to me, I live in south bondi (2026) and have a garage you can work in.
