What do Car Scratch Repair services include?
Car scratch repair services include inspecting the scratch to determine the severity of the damage, determining what tools and materials to use, the cost of the work and the time needed to complete the task. To get the most out of your car scratch repair, note that car scratches are usually of two types: a light scratch that goes only as far as affecting the clear coat layer, or a deep scratch that reaches the paint or cuts into the bare metal.Â
Repairing Light Scratches
Car scratch repair for light scratches can be quite simple and can be done in at most a couple of hours, depending on the severity of the scratch, and the time needed for the touch-up to dry. If the light scratch is small, using and applying a car scratch repair pen can be all that’s required to fix the problem. While that is an option, the usual manner by which Taskers could perform this service is by cleaning the problem spot, masking off unaffected areas close to the scratch, then applying a polishing compound with a microfiber cloth to polish off the scratch.
Repairing Deep Scratches
Deep scratches call for a more qualified service to fix. This type of scratch may have penetrated the base coat of your car’s paint job, or worse, reached and exposed the bare sheet metal of your car’s body. Don’t delay in having this kind of scratch repaired, as neglecting it can cause corrosion to set in and lead to larger, more expensive repairs to your car. Have a small batch of paint, such as a touch-up bottle of the exact same colour as your car is getting primed for these repairs.
When repairing deep scratches, Taskers will first do a thorough cleaning on the problem spot to remove any dirt, grease or oils. High-grit sandpaper will be used to sand off the paint on and around the scratch, but only until reaching the clear coat. If the scratch goes deeper, more sanding is done. After the sanding is completed, the area is rinsed with water and wiped dry with a non-abrasive microfibre cloth.
To prepare the area for repainting, your Tasker may mask off the unaffected areas close to the scratch. A thin layer of primer will be applied and left to dry. The scratch will likely be touched up by dabbing (not brushing) new paint on it with a toothpick or matchstick, then finally left to dry.
