Replace Clutch on 2016 Holden Cruze

$1,150

Mulgrave VIC, Australia

18th Dec 2022

The car appears to have a problem with the clutch, it slowly started requiring more revs to be able to accelerate and as we were in peak hour traffic from stopping & starting again at some point it just wouldn’t go forward at all. Interestingly it does go in reverse, I’m not sure what that means. I have heard it could mean that instead of the clutch it could be a fluid leak, it is requires less transmission fluid to be able to move in reverse. So based on that, it could be something much simpler than a Full clutch replacement, like cracked transmission oil line or something like that, in which case we can work out a fair price for the cheaper repair. I’m going to have someone inspect the car to diagnose the problem on site, where the car is parked on Monday, just before I would then like to organise a tow of the vehicle to your location as I will be with the vehicle and the RACV will be able to do the tow as the require someone with the key to be with the vehicle when it is collected. Worst case scenario is that it’s both the Dual Mass Flywheel Clutch & The Manual 6 Speed Transmission needing either replaced or rebuilt which would be almost worth more than I could get reselling the vehicle, so hears hoping it’s not that. If it is that, I’ll need to be ringing around to ensure I get the best price possible. At that point timing won’t matter so much as the price it costs will be way more important. But let’s cross this bridges when we come to them… I’ll know tomorrow (Monday) arvo what is the exact problem & was hoping to have a workshop to tow it to directly after even if that means the work cannot be done for a little while just so I can get it to someone that can do the work. With RACV you need to be no more than 20kms from where the car is at in Mulgrave, which is a fair amount of Metro Melbourne covered, so just letting you know Incase you can do it but your workshop is in Geelong, or somewhere further than 20kms. Let me know if you can do the job… Ideally I would like to have the car towed to you on Monday afternoon around 5-6pm, then have the car repaired by Wednesday evening so that I can collect it on my way back through Melbourne. If that can’t happen that is fine, I can wait until you need to in order to collect the car: I just need to try and get this expensive job done as price effectively as possible, due to recouping losses from recent repairs totalling over $10,000 by the time this is fixed if it’s both the 6speed gearbox & the clutch then I’ll have lost more than I can recover but I gotta get it done and try and recoup a little on the resale of the car… I am open to suggestions & offers about the options related to replacing the clutch, such as new one, salvaged one, rebuilt one… these kind of things. I am not sure what is the best solution for the best price so I would appreciate any advice. I can get a new replacement kit for between $700-800 (1 cheaper but most around that price, then I have been quoted half a days labour to remove & install the new clutch from several mechanics workshops with quotes between $350 & $450, however this is for availability in 3+ weeks. so I have put $1150 in for the price which seems to be mid range on both the parts & labour. Given the urgency of the job & the need to try and get the work completed by Wednesday afternoon when I will be passing through Melbourne, I am certainly interested in any offers & happy to negotiate fair uplift on the labour component of the repair given the short lead time, the Christmas period which the work will need to be completed on & other holiday related factors as well as my urgency in needing the job done. So please, if you think you can help me & want to offer a quote, or write a comment to discuss things first at this stage I welcome any & all offers & communication to discuss the job. If you are not able to complete the job by the evening on Wednesday the 21st of December but you could complete it soon after still send a message or offer, as I might be forced into a situation where I have to consider alternative times to get the job completed. I know mostly everyone is booked out or on holidays already, so I hope there is still someone out there with a cancellation or availability. I hope to hear from you! Thanks in advance! I am just fixing the car to sell it so the cheapest options that is decent would be appreciated. Thanks. I look forward to your responses & offers… - Due date: Preferably by Wednesday, 21 December 2022 but ultimately when ever is feasible to do the repairs…

Can you quote me for installation of carplay and reverse camera. I have received the unit today - can start of on the project this weekend.

It's an immaculate job. I love the finish touches and how the cables are hidden properly. My only regret is I wished I contacted him sooner so he could give me a few pointers of what to look for before purchasing a head unit. Oh well... still a better upgrade than my existing one.
