Getting your windows tinted can help keep your car cooler for a little longer because it can slow down heat. That said, tests show that eventually tinted and untinted cars reach similar interior temperatures.

A DIY window tinting removal job without the right tools or experience could lead to scratched glass and hours spent scrubbing away sticky residue. Removing old tinting is a quick job for your car window tinter so you can always request help with this in your job listing.

It can take 2-4 days for a window tint to fully dry so book your car window tinting at a time you know you won’t need the car. Getting it done during the summer months can also speed up the process.

A low-grade film constantly exposed to sun can fade and bubble within months. For something longer-lasting, as your car window tinter about hybrid or metalized films made using sputtering or deposition technology. These can last anywhere between five and 10 years.

It can be as low as $100 or as much as $500. Car window tinting prices are based on the number of windows that need tinting, the size of the vehicle and the quality of the tinting film. Your car window tinter will consider all of these points when putting your Airtasker quote together.

Yes, window tinting typically costs more for SUVs due to their larger window surface area requiring more film and potentially more complex installation.  While SUVs and station wagons generally cost more than smaller cars like hatchbacks or sedans, pricing also depends on the specific vehicle size, film type, and the tint shop's rates. Getting quotes from several car window tinting specialists is recommended.

What does car window tinting include?

Whether you hire a car window tinter to come to your home or drop your car off at a tinting workshop near you, the application process is the same. Here’s what you can expect when you book a car window tinting service through Airtasker.

Car window tinting service - prepare and clean your windows

When you're ready to tint a car near you and book a car tinting service, expect your car to be parked in a covered, well-lit area. This limits the risk of dust getting under the film, causing bobbling. Your professional car window tinter will remove any existing tint film and prepare the first window.

Both sides are sprayed with a special application solution (not your standard glass cleaner), wiped with a soft squeegee or sponge, and dried with a lint-free cloth. This thorough cleaning is essential, especially if you've recently had windscreen repairs and replacement, as any residue could affect the tint's adhesion

Car window tinting service - measure and cut films

If you're confident that your car window is clean and doesn't require any car window repair or car window replacement, a professional window tint near you will then start working with the film. The outside of the window is re-sprayed with a solution and the film rolled across. Another layer of spray is applied and using a sharp blade your car window tinter carefully traces the window’s shape. Being careful of the glass, any edges and wing mirrors, the excess film is cut away and discarded.

The film is moved and aligned as needed, getting the perfect fit before it’s smoothed out with a window squeegee and dried with a heat gun.

Car window tinting service - apply window tint

Now the right size and shape for your window, the tint can be applied. This time the inside of the window is sprayed with a solution. Satisfied the film is in the perfect position your car window tinter will expose the adhesive side, smoothing out the film as they work, stopping air or excess solution getting trapped under the film. Steps 1-3 are then repeated for each car window that’s being tinted.

Car window tinting service - clean work area

Depending on the number of windows and the size of your car, tinting can take between one and two hours. Once your professional tinter is done, they’ll clean up the work area taking any discarded tinting film with them. Before heading off, they’ll let you know how long the adhesive takes to try and pass on any tips about caring for your window tints.

For a truly showroom-ready look, consider detailing your own car, or better yet, hire professional car detailers near you.

I need privacy and UV window film for 4 glass panes, each measuring 830x830mm. Please provide a quote specifying the product you will be using so I can validate the spec and ensure if I would like it. I prefer good quality as it's for the front window of my house and needs to look good from the outside. It’s east facing so not so worried on heat rejection efficiency. Ideally I would want maximum privacy, with reasonable compromise in sunlight. Üv rejection I guess is default.
