What do fan installers do?

Even if you know how to install ceiling fan wiring, the installation must be done by a licensed electrician to avoid the danger of electrocution. If you're having more than one fan installed on the same day, each additional ceiling fan installation will usually cost less than the first.

Your electrician may also be able to help you install other types of fans around your home, such as an exhaust fan or outdoor fan, or other electrical fittings such as lighting.

Ceiling fan replacement

If you're replacing an older ceiling fan or your room already has a ceiling outlet, the electrician can complete a like-for-like ceiling fan installation. This usually takes less than an hour and involves removing the existing fan, assembling and installing the new fan and connecting the wiring. You should also your installer whether they will dispose of the old fan or if you need to do this yourself.

New connection

If you don't already have a ceiling fan and there is not a suitable connection in the ceiling, this will need to be set up before your ceiling fan can be installed. This takes longer and costs more than replacing an existing fan. The electrician will need to run wires through the walls and ceiling and to install wall switches.

Fan with lighting

The same ceiling outlet can power a light fitting and a fan if you want to save space in a smaller room or avoid clutter. Ceiling fan and light packages can be purchased together, or they may be installed separately by a qualified electrician.

Ceiling fan repair

If your ceiling fan isn't working properly or is making noises and you can't fix it yourself, hiring an electrician for ceiling fan repair will cost less than buying and installing a new fan – unless the fault can't be repaired and you need a replacement.

Install DC ceiling fans

$250

Piara Waters WA, Australia

30th Oct 2024

We are about to pull trigger and buy three DC ceiling fans, which have built-in lights and remote. Our roof has wooden frame. We need someone to install them, I'm guessing they go over the existing light fittings and we would then use the remote going forward. If possible, and please quote the extra difference for this, could the existing light switch face plates be swapped out for ones that will let us control the fan and light on/off (the faceplates would need two switches obviously). This would be convenient, as sometimes when you walk in a room just just want to hit the light switch and not mess about locating the remote. This is just a nice to have, if even possible. If it matters to know, the fans we are looking at are either this... https://www.fansonline.com.au/fanco-urban-id-dc-ceiling-fan-with-led-light-black-52.html ...or this... - https://www.bunnings.com.au/brilliant-132cm-black-matt-grace-4-blade-dc-ceiling-fan-with-remote-and-led-light_p0332330 ...but we may change our minds. Ultimately whatever we get will be DC, as I've been advised these are quieter than AC.

i have 4 ceiling fans with a remote control each. none of the fans work with the remote, so is unable to operate. however, one fan decided to turn on by itself without doing anything and now we can’t turn the fan off. maybe this has something to do with the transmitter in each fan? i’m not sure. i need someone to fix this issue
