Pleasant, punctual and competent. He did a good job i.e. moving a ceiling fan from one room to another room with removal of the original fan in this 2nd room, and installing an acquired (by me) second hand ceiling fan where the 1st fan was removed from. Is $220 appropriate for a 50 minute job? – I’m not sure. He didn’t have a vacuum cleaner to clean up bits of wire, screws and ceiling material and asked to use my vacuum cleaner. I preferred to sweep up the debris myself rather than use my vacuum cleaner for this type of material. Usually electricians bring their own vacuum cleaner. I was asked to dispose of the removed fan myself. Previously electricians have removed and disposed of fan/s themselves rather than me having to take it/them to the tip myself.

What do fan installers do?
Even if you know how to install ceiling fan wiring, the installation must be done by a licensed electrician to avoid the danger of electrocution. If you're having more than one fan installed on the same day, each additional ceiling fan installation will usually cost less than the first.
Your electrician may also be able to help you install other types of fans around your home, such as an exhaust fan or outdoor fan, or other electrical fittings such as lighting.
Ceiling fan replacement
If you're replacing an older ceiling fan or your room already has a ceiling outlet, the electrician can complete a like-for-like ceiling fan installation. This usually takes less than an hour and involves removing the existing fan, assembling and installing the new fan and connecting the wiring. You should also your installer whether they will dispose of the old fan or if you need to do this yourself.
New connection
If you don't already have a ceiling fan and there is not a suitable connection in the ceiling, this will need to be set up before your ceiling fan can be installed. This takes longer and costs more than replacing an existing fan. The electrician will need to run wires through the walls and ceiling and to install wall switches.

If your ceiling fan isn't working properly or is making noises and you can't fix it yourself, hiring an electrician for ceiling fan repair will cost less than buying and installing a new fan – unless the fault can't be repaired and you need a replacement.

We have a remote ceiling fan that won't turn off. High speeds work fine but low sounds funny and off will just keep it slowly spinning but with a low humming noise. I am assuming the speed controller is maybe fried. We would like someone to disconnect it (we can only currently turn it off but flipping off the lights circuit), terminate the wires correctly and screw the fan back in. We will then select new fans for the apartment and have them installed at a later date.
