What do childcare and safety services include?

When you book a childcare and safety service through our platform, you get to work with a practitioner who can go to your home and help you look after your baby or child. If you or your partner are about to give birth, you can also find experts to help you get through labour and the first few weeks of life with your newborn.

You can find the following types of childcare and safety practitioners on our platform:

Babysitting

A babysitter usually takes care of babies and young children temporarily - for example, an emergency comes up at work, you need to run some errands, or you want a (well-deserved) night out. Babysitters usually do not have any formal qualifications besides registration.

They’re in charge of changing nappies, preparing meals, keeping the kids entertained, and supervising them.

Childminding

If you’re going to be out regularly (e.g. for your 9-5 job), or if you’re going to be on a business trip for a week and none of your relatives can watch the kids, you’ll need a childminder.

Childminders, like babysitters, are required to register with Ofsted. They may also have more credentials than a typical babysitter. These can include a childminding course, pediatric First Aid, and safeguarding training. Childminders typically prepare meals, change diapers, bathe and dress the kids, take them to and from school, and help with their education.

Doula services

Doulas are responsible for providing emotional and physical support to the mother. This usually starts months before the birth. During your pregnancy, a doula is expected to educate you about pregnancy and birth, help you create a birth plan, talk to you about life experiences that might affect your birth experience, and help you prepare for your post-birth state.

During labour, they can support you physically by creating your ideal birthing environment. They also suggest positions and breathing exercises. Doulas also serve as your champion when talking to your healthcare providers.

After giving birth, you can usually expect a doula to help you bond with your new baby and give you tips for feeding, sleeping, and settling with your newborn. Doulas typically service home births. If you choose to deliver your child in a hospital and don’t have a way to get your doula there fast, you can use Airtasker to find a trusted driver near you.

Maternity nursing

When you book a maternity nurse, expect a support system that’ll help you learn the basics of caring for your new baby. They may show you how to carry, feed, bathe, dress, and comfort your newborn. Maternity nurses may also help by taking care of your baby for hours at a time, allowing you time to rest and recover.

Life with your little one can be challenging! Thankfully, you can easily find people in your community who can help you shop for groceries without leaving your home. You can also find cleaning experts who’ll help you declutter or even clean out your gutters.
