What do clutch replacement services include?
If you own an older model of vehicle with a manual transmission, it is of paramount importance to always keep an eye on the warning signs of a failing clutch. Early planning of a clutch replacement will save you from a more complex and costly repair, and will also reduce your chances of breaking down in the middle of driving. However, if you're too occupied to bring your vehicle to repair shops, let an expert mechanic take over. Here's what to expect from a clutch replacement service:
Old Clutch Removal
Foremost, the transmission part of your engine will be taken down to uncover the old clutch. It will expose the pressure plate, flywheel, and the damaged clutch disc, which is the root of your car failure. The pressure plate will then be unbolted from the flywheel, making it easier to pull all the clutch components out of the engine.
Clutch Replacement
The mechanic will have to check if the flywheel needs cleaning, a few minor repairs, or even a replacement to avoid damaging your new clutch. Afterwards, the new clutch disc will be bolted in between the flywheel and the pressure plate.
Clutch Testing
Finally, the transmission part will be reassembled and reinstalled back onto the car. Go for a quick test drive with your mechanic to double-check your new clutch. It's normal to experience a little rough clutch pedal at first, but it will return to regular operation after a few miles. Â
