What do dog walking services include?
Our dog walking specialists can help you give your pet the exercise they need, even while you’re away. This means supervising their walk and even encouraging them to socialise with other dogs. While the details of each job may vary among Taskers and can even depend on your pet’s needs, here’s what’s typically included when you request a dog walking service through Airtasker.
Picking up and dropping off your pet
Your Tasker will need access to your house or apartment to pick up and drop off your dog. Once you’ve given them a copy of your keys, they can easily fetch your pet, lock up your house, and take your dog for a walk. Â
Afterwards, they’ll drop off your pet and make sure they have enough food and water. If necessary, your Tasker may also towel off your dog and wipe their paws to prevent tracking in dirt. After giving a few more pets and cuddles and making sure your dog is comfortable, your walker will lock up the house and be on their way.
Note: If your Tasker is handling more than one client’s pets, you can expect a couple of other dogs to be in your home for a few minutes while your dog is being picked up or dropped off. If you worry about your house’s cleanliness, talk to your Tasker about making sure these other dogs stay on-leash and supervised at all times - or opt for a solo dog walking arrangement.
Supervising your dog’s walk and interactions
The bulk of your dog walker’s job is to get your pet moving. They’ll make sure your pet is happy, comfortable, and safe while on their walk. This includes following your instructions, helping your dog socialise, and giving lots of love and attention.
Typical dog walkers usually handle more than one owner’s pets - which means your dog can make several new friends on their regular walks. Because of this, it’s essential to make sure your dog is vaccinated, dewormed, and is trained or socialised. To be safe, some Taskers require dogs to be neutered or spayed. Ask your Tasker about their policies, or specify in your task post if you’d prefer to have your dog walked solo or in a pack.Â
Handling dog mess & emergencies
Your Tasker also takes charge of cleaning your dog’s mess and making sure they don’t destroy any property during their walk. Taskers usually have their supply of waste bags, but you can provide your own.
In case of emergencies, your Tasker must have your contact information and that of your vet. While your dog walker will work to keep your pet safe, it won’t hurt to give them this information beforehand. Â
Need a hand with other household tasks while you’re out? Airtasker can also help you book sitters for your dog or house, or even help make sure your pantry is stocked. In just a few taps, you can get more done!Â
