What does a door installation service include?
Door installation involves more than just fitting a door to hinges. Measurements have to be exact, the door hinges may need to be recessed, and there should be enough space between the door and floor to prevent scratching or scraping. The same steps will depend on what type of door you need to be installed. Here are some of the most common:
Internal door installationÂ
The process for installing or replacing your internal door will depend on the style of the door. Usually, your installer will start by measuring the space and trimming the door to size, if needed. They’ll fit new hinges and screws your door into place using an electric drill, ensuring everything is level and lined up perfectly. In some cases, your installer may also fit new door frames to match (these will go in before the door).
Sliding door installationÂ
Cavity sliding doors are popular for areas with limited space, as the door disappears into the cavity when opened Your door installer will start by putting the sliding door frame together, knocking out the spacer and inserting the sliding track into the cavity. Next, they’ll install the frame, paying careful attention to ensure there is no bulging. They’ll install packers to support the frame before nailing it together. Lastly, the rollers will be attached and your new cavity sliding door hung, although your installer may still need to adjust the height and plumb of the door if needed.
Security door installation
The first step to installing your security door involves attaching the lock and handles, in line with the instructions that came with your door. Your installer will measure and mark hinge placement on the door jamb. If you have an older house, the door frame may not be square. To counteract this, your door installer will use their tools to make sure the hinges sit flush. Lastly, your door installer will attach the hinges and striker.
Screen door installationÂ
Your door installer will fit your new screen door by positioning it, marking the hinge rebates with a chisel, and using a drill to secure the hinges in place. Lastly, they will fit the handle, insert the lock cylinder, and attach the striker plate. Your handyman will then test the new screen door to make sure it’s opening and closing smoothly.
Door handle installationÂ
If you want to update the look and feel of your space without a full door installation, you might just replace the doorknobs. Your handyman will remove the existing handles and fit the new ones. The exact process will depend on the style of the door handle, so your installer will check the instructions, carefully fitting the lock mechanism and handle into the existing recess.
