Exterior wall cleaning services include all the necessary tasks to clean your property’s outside walls of unsightly dirt, mould that can be hazardous to health or other debris. The service can include inspecting walls and nearby areas before cleaning, prepping the walls for cleaning, cleaning and rinsing off the walls, removing mould and applying sealant.  

Pre-cleaning checks

Your hired exterior wall cleaning specialist begins by inspecting the walls to see what material they’re made of and which walls need cleaning. This step helps them prepare to clean the walls as they can determine which walls have the most dirt, grime, mould, moss or vines that are difficult to remove.  

They can inspect your walls to ascertain which tools, equipment, and cleaners are best and ensure that the cleaning process is efficient and effective. 

Pre-cleaning 

After your hired specialist has scoped out your walls, they do some pre-cleaning tasks. This can include moving potted plants out of the way, so they don’t get splashed with any cleaning chemicals. It’s at this stage that they can mix special cleaners to remove the toughest stains, grime or mould growth. They use only cleaners that are non-toxic and strong enough to remove stubborn dirt, but not harsh to avoid damage when cleaning exterior painted walls.

If your hired cleaning expert plans on using strong chemical cleaners and your walls have plants nearby that can’t be moved, some specialists may apply limestone on the plants to protect them from the chemicals.   

Cleaning the walls

For the actual cleaning, your hired cleaning specialist uses the most appropriate and effective techniques, tools and cleansers suitable for your type of exterior walls. They can use a pressure washer to give the exterior walls a thorough cleanse, first spraying on pure water to loosen dirt and grime, followed by pressure-spraying a mild cleanser. For dealing with tougher dirt or stains, your specialist can use stronger cleaning chemicals like ammonia or bleach. 

Your specialist takes care not to spray this on nearby plants or vegetation, or applies limestone on plants and vegetation beforehand - some specialists may charge extra for this. Note that your Tasker may not always use a pressure washer (such as in cleaning log cabin exterior walls) as this can strip off the varnish or cause moisture buildup in recesses, leading to eventual mould growth. 

Removing mould and similar debris

Mould can be one of the toughest, unsightly things that can cling to your exterior walls. Your specialist can remove mould by using a mixture of vinegar and water. They may use diluted bleach or a special cleaning solution to remove the toughest mould. After applying the solution on the mould by hand, they scrub with a brush then rinse off the mould with a pressure washer.
