Top First Aid Training related questions

Yes! Some Taskers can offer home service and go to your location to conduct your first aid training. You can even find Taskers to give you online paediatric first aid training, so you can learn the lessons and take tests if necessary without leaving home. Be sure to mention that you prefer to have the lessons at your home to attract the right Taskers.

Yes, you can train in first aid this way, but it won’t give you a workplace safety certification. You also don’t get to practice your skills with the guidance of a certified instructor. Without the correct feedback, you may not know if you’ve absorbed all the lessons and can administer first aid in the right way. Why not book actual sessions with a trainer on Airtasker?

Yes, it is! Basic first aid is a skill anyone should have, even if they’re not medical professionals. You never know when you may need to treat an injury on yourself, your family or others. Basic first aid training can increase your chances of survival in dire situations. Remember that first aid is not treatment but a temporary measure to prevent injuries from worsening and stabilise a patient’s condition until professional help arrives.

No. Some websites that offer free online courses and certifications usually add a disclaimer and ask you to agree to sign a waiver. The disclaimer may say that the certificate they issue after you’ve studied all their first aid lessons cannot replace a practical first aid course. You can learn from free online courses, but it would be better to take hands-on classes from someone certified to teach first aid.

First aid kits should not have any products that contain Ibuprofen, aspirin or any other prescription or over-the-counter drugs. This is because you may not know if a patient is allergic to any of these drugs, and they may develop complications or worsen their condition if they take them. Stick to regular antiseptics, bandages, band-aids and other generic tools when preparing your first-aid kit.

Yes, but don’t rely on it to teach you everything you need to know. Training videos may not always be as comprehensive or as accurate as learning from an actual first aid trainer. You can pick up some helpful information about administering first aid from a training video, but as the saying goes, “experience is the best teacher”. Find a professional first aid trainer from whom you can learn the basics and impart lessons based on their experience.

What do first aid training services include?

First aid training services include all the required activities to teach you basic life-saving first aid techniques, but only to stabilise a patient’s condition and ease their pain until medical professionals arrive. The service can be similar to red cross first aid training, as you can receive emergency first aid training from licensed and certified professionals.

Learning to respond to emergencies

The first thing you can learn in basic first aid training is how to apply the appropriate response in an emergency. Your first-aid trainer teaches you the 3 C’s of first aid: Check, Call and Care. They can teach you how to approach the patient, what signs to look for and how to administer first aid without risking your safety.

Caring for wounds

Your first-aid trainer can teach you how to treat most wounds, from minor scrapes to large contusions. They can show you methods for disinfection and how to apply the appropriate dressing. Your trainer may also teach you how to change old dressings for new ones in cases where it will take some time before the patient gets to a hospital or emergency services arrive.

Breathing and choking emergencies

Your Tasker can train you how to treat anyone who is choking or unable to breathe. Additionally, they can teach you how to clear blocked airways and restore a patient’s ability to breathe. Learn different techniques when treating infants, children and adults - including those who have asthma and anaphylactic shock.

Fractures & broken bones

Your hired Tasker can teach you how to apply first aid for injuries from falling, tripping or crashing in a car. They can teach you how to help someone who sustained injuries to their head, neck, back and even their muscles and joints. You can learn how to improvise splints and slings to isolate and prevent unnecessary movement of any broken bones.

First aid for poisons

There’s always a chance that dangerous, venomous pests could cause a medical emergency. Poisons from pests, plants, hazardous emissions from cars that need repairs and other poison hazards all have specific first-aid measures, and you can learn them from this service.

Using an AED & doing CPR

You can learn when it’s appropriate to apply CPR or use AED on a patient. Your first-aid trainer can instruct you on how many compressions to do in between breaths and other vital details for properly administering CPR on a patient when necessary.

Other medical emergencies

Some Taskers can include other medical emergencies like mental health emergencies, epileptic seizures, or even childbirth upon request. They can teach you the appropriate measures like mental health first aid training.

Testing your knowledge

Some Taskers may give you a written and practical exam to see if you absorbed all the lessons. They can point out which areas of knowledge need improvement and give you a re-test until you have mastered the lessons.
