What do fridge water line installation services include?

Fridge water line installation services include all the activities necessary for installing a cold water line connection to your fridge. This water line provides water supply for your fridge’s built-in ice maker as well as for its filtered water dispenser if there’s any. Tasks include inspecting the water line, planning the pipe route, draining water pipes, then making the connections.

Water line inspection

Your tradesman begins the service by making a thorough visual inspection of your water lines. They’ll start by finding the cold water pipes closest to your fridge, usually in your kitchen sink, and measure the distance between them to determine the length of pipe needed for the new fridge water line.

Fridge water line planning

After finding the nearest cold water pipe to the fridge and getting the appropriate measurements, your tradie can proceed with planning the line installation. Using copper tubing, saddle valves, tee fittings, and other materials, your water supply line is then carefully prepared before installation. Your tradie may drill holes through the kitchen floor to access the basement, or drill a hole to spool the piping through a kitchen cabinet. They can map out the shortest, most efficient route for the fridge water line–one that doesn’t extend too far to minimise the risk of pipe leaks or crimps.

Pipe draining

Before connecting the pipes to the water line and the refrigerator, your tradesman shuts off the main water valve, then empties the pipes. They can place buckets to catch the water from the supply tubing then pour the water onto your drains or your houseplants. While on the subject of pipes, why not have an expert install a well-placed drainage system to your home? Whether it’s replacing downpipes or installing new gutters, Taskers can take care of all your plumbing needs.

Making connections

With the water shut off and pipes emptied, your fridge water line installer proceeds to connect the new fridge water line. They’ll start by cutting into the cold water pipe, then fitting the new tee adapter and shutoff valve. Note that before they connect any pipes, the insides of the pipes must be deburred. Your tradesman solders the tee adapter and shutoff valve in place, then lets the solder cure. After the soldering has set, they’ll connect the new pipe to the refrigerator’s plastic tubing. Lastly, your tradie installs the pipes with the appropriate retainer nuts, sleeves, and ferrules.

Water line testing

Your tradie does one final check to look for leaks or pressure variations and to make sure that each pipe is tightly fastened. Once they’re confident that the connection is complete, they’ll turn on the water valve to test for any leaking refrigerator water. If any problems arise, your plumber shuts off the valves then applies the right fixes. Your tradie repeats this process until your new fridge water line works without any flaws. Some tradies may offer to clean up the worksite, but in case you want a separate service for this, you can always hire a Tasker to do a general cleaning of your property.
