What do light installation services include?
Your light installation service includes planning the wiring route, cutting a hole in the ceiling or wall for mounting the light fixture if necessary, installing a new or replacement fixture, wiring the light, wiring a dimmer switch if required and testing the replacement light installation. Note that before the installation step, your light installation expert cuts off the power to the lights.Â
Planning the wiring route
Your electrician begins by planning how to wire the new light fixture if necessary. Wiring a light fixture involves measuring and cutting a sufficient length of wire that leads from the junction box or power source to the light fixture. Â
They may make the wiring a little longer than required to give the wires slack and provide extra material to cut and splice in case the wire becomes frayed later on. Your light installation expert should plan and install the wiring following established safety codes and standards set forth by your state. Â
Cutting a hole into the wall or ceiling
For a new light installation, your hired light installation expert proceeds to cut a hole into the wall or ceiling where you want the new light fixture. They can do the appropriate measurements for mounting the light fixtures, light switch and dimmer switch installation if necessary. Â
Your light installation expert can cut the right-sized hole for your new lights and install them, whether it be LED lights, sensor lights, ceiling lamps, bathroom lights, or chandelier. Note that they may have to do some simple carpentry if no mounting holes exist and if some holes aren't the right size or aren't cut according to building codes. Â Â
Installing the light fixture
Your light installation expert proceeds to install the light fixture. They mount these on the holes cut into a wall or ceiling, then secure them with the included screws. If necessary, some experts may drill additional holes to allow for screws or securing brackets.Â
Connecting the wiringÂ
Next, your light installation expert proceeds with installing and connecting the wiring that comes from your junction box and links these to the new light fixture. Your light installation expert may attach mounting brackets to secure the wiring and ensure that it doesn't sag or come loose. They can also make sure to connect the wires of the right colours to their appropriate terminals. Â
Testing the light installation
After finishing the job, your light installation specialist puts the power back on and tests the light. They can switch the light on and off several times, then leave it on for a few minutes to watch for any unusual behaviour. Should the newly installed lights flicker, go out or not work as intended, your light installation expert shuts off the power and checks each component of the lighting to find the source of the problem. They repeat this process until the light works without any issues.Â
