What does a mechanic service usually include?
Mechanics are skilled in nearly all aspects of keeping your car maintained, serviced, and repaired, so it’s roadworthy and efficient to run. The exact process during your service will depend on how your mechanic prefers to work and the type of tasks they’re doing, like:
Minor service
This is the most basic engine service a mechanic provides, but it can make a huge difference in whether or not your car can operate efficiently. A minor service usually alternates with a major service, at around the 6-month mark. A mechanic near you can do minor services because your mechanic only needs a flat service to get the job done. Log book servicing / major service
A major service or log book service involves a series of steps in line with your vehicle manufacturer’s service manual. It’ll include a combination of major and minor services, depending on the age of your car, or how many kilometres it’s travelled. Your service may include testing your lights, brakes, and battery. Then checking fluid levels, windscreen wipers, windows, mirrors, steering, suspension, radiator, fan belts, and tyre pressure. Finally, it may also include maintaining/replacing oil filters, hoses, belts, tyres, and wheel alignment. Your mechanic will finish off by stamping your logbook to record the services completed, which can help maintain your car’s resale value.
Roadworthy certificate or pink slip
A roadworthy certificate or pink slip is a specific vehicle check that’s conducted to ensure your car is in a roadworthy condition and can be operated safely. In some states, it’s required when selling a car or may be required each year to confirm your vehicle is safe for registration purposes. A mechanic will check off a list of predetermined items to verify that your car meets a minimum safety standard set out by your state government. They’ll focus on safety, checking things like tyres, brakes, steering, suspension, rust or damage, seatbelts, windows, lights, and your windscreen.
Major and minor repairs
Sometimes your car might need a little extra attention if you’ve had an accident, broken down, or your drive feels a bit different to normal. Audi A3 (shared with VW) engine is overheating. Diagnosis needed - no error system messages and pressure test fine and all fluid levels fine. It may be the water pump and timing belt (belt is fine but since it is off, should be replaced). A3 2015 TDI, done 74,000klms car is driveable and fine, but unpredictable whether it overheats or not. Two mecanics have reviewed and have not been certain on the cause, so no work done. I need a VW/Audi specialist/expert

2011 RAV4 upgrades requested: 1. Replacement of stock headunit for Android ATOTO S8 Ultra Head Unit (purchased from Amazon). I have purchased a wiring harness from eBay which I believe fits. 2012 Land Rover Discovery 4 requiring installation of new sat nav head unit and reverse camera. I have the equipment already purchased and ready to install as it was originally a DIY project, but I’ve just run out of time. The gear is a Kenwood DMX8521S head unit, new facia, interface and all necessary adaptors, including a reverse camera with a ‘snap-in’ to factory location EcoMaster in 3D housing. I can supply a link to a video for dismantle of dash and install of head unit. This doesn’t include the reverse camera. Would preferably like installation pre Christmas. Access to vehicle in Drummoyne is outside off street parking at rear of the block. Plenty of space and security to park your vehicle and work behind roller door/gate. Should I go ahead I’m seeking someone with appropriate experience in fitting head units and auto electrical.
