Put the pavers back in place (on some sand). Lay a rectangular piece of concrete (about 150mm think with blue metal in it). Replace some adjoining sandstone stepping stones and put some concrete around them. The trench underneath has been dug about 250mm deep then refilled, so it might need a bit of time to settle before the pavers/ concrete are laid, as it will sink down over time. Thank you
