What do plaster repair services include?
Plaster repair services include all the activities necessary to fix damaged plaster on your walls or ceilings. This service can consist of fixing all sorts of damage like holes, gouges, pits or hairline cracks in plaster. Your plaster repair Tasker can inspect the site, assess the damage, prepare the necessary tools and materials, fix the damage, and apply the appropriate finish.Â
Site assessment
Your plaster repair Tasker does a thorough inspection of the walls and ceilings that need repairs. They can assess the extent and nature of the damage and see if it’s as simple as plaster crack repair or is a more complex job like blown plaster repair or lath and plaster repair. Your Tasker can take the appropriate measurements of the damage, such as the depth and size of cracks, to determine how much material they need and what tools to prepare. Â
If during the inspection, your Tasker discovers water damage to your plaster, you may want to hire someone to check and fix the pipes before they start.Â
Site & materials preparation
Your Tasker may cover your floor with a plastic dust sheet or other protective material. Some Taskers may move furniture out of the way. They may also cover any light switches or electrical sockets that are close to the damaged plaster. Should you want new wirings installed, make sure to hire someone to do this first before the plaster repairs. Â
If necessary, your Tasker may prime the damaged areas - this can include scraping the edges of cracks, then dusting off raised and excess material, then brushing the area with carpenter’s glue to give better surface adhesion for the filler and new plaster. Your Tasker can do this and other appropriate prep work on the damage.
Performing repairs
Once the site is prepared, and the materials are ready, your Tasker can do the repairs. They can use proven techniques and the right tools and materials. This can include plaster repair with a skim application, plaster repair with Polycell, plaster repair with Polyfilla, gypsum plaster repair and any other appropriate repair methods. Â
Some Taskers can remove and replace broken laths, although you may have to hire a separate service if the damage to the lath is extensive. Following best practices, your Tasker can apply as much filler and new plaster as needed to fill the cracks, gouges or holes in the wall or ceiling plaster. Note that they can allow each layer of filler or plaster to dry in-between applications.
Finishing touches
Your Tasker can smoothen the new plaster once all the layers have dried. They can use sandpaper of the appropriate coarseness or fineness to make the new plaster level with the rest of the wall or ceiling. If necessary, your Tasker can apply finishing oils or primer for fresh paint. Â
Speaking of which, why not have your walls or ceilings painted in a new or different colour?
