What do rendering services include?

The exact inclusions of your rendering service will depend on what you need. If you’re not sure, your renderer can talk you through whether rendering is suitable for your surface, and whether cement or acrylic rendering is best for your project, along with what colour and textures will suit.

Here are some of the most popular rendering services and what you can expect from each:

Exterior wall rendering

Exterior wall rendering not only protects walls from the elements but can help lift the appearance of your home. Your renderer will start by chatting with you about the best render materials to use for your exterior, and any colours or finishes. They’ll prepare the walls and repair any structural defects. They may remove external features, like rainwater pipes, before they begin the rendering process. Next, they’ll measure and mix the render - usually in a concrete mixer or wheelbarrow. Your renderer will plaster the material on your walls using a trowel and add a decorative finish or texture if desired. They may finish off the job with a weather-proof layer of paint.

Interior wall rendering

Need interior walls rendered? The interior rendering process is normally referred to as plastering. It’s often used to coat walls and surfaces (like bricks) to make it smooth and flat for painting. Or to add interesting textures and effects. Your plasterer will mix dry materials with water and apply the plaster to your interior wall surfaces. You’ll need to allow around a week for your plastered walls to dry before painting.

Fence or retaining wall rendering

Your renderer can also render your fences or retaining walls to match the exterior render of your home for a uniform, modern look. Your renderer will likely recommend a smooth or medium texture so that water can’t get trapped in the pockets. They’ll prepare the surface, mix the render, and apply it using a trowel. They’ll use a range of tools to create your preferred texture and finish off with paint to help weather-proof your fence.

Kitchen and bathroom resurfacing

Resurfacing is popular in both kitchen renovation and bathroom renovation projects because it can give your home a fresh, new look without replacing any tiles or fixtures. Popular resurfacing locations include wall tiles, baths, basins, shower trays, vanity tops, and benchtops. Your resurfacing professional will start by confirming your preferences, like the colour and level of gloss you’d like. Then they’ll use sheets and masking tape to protect any areas in the room not being resurfaced. Next, they’ll remove any silicone and deep clean the surface for maximum adhesion. If needed, they’ll do minor repairs, such as removing chips and scratches and smoothing out the surface through sanding and etching. Finally, they’ll apply the primer and topcoat in line with your preferred colour and finish, reapplying silicon and removing the masking tape.
