What does a solar panel cleaning service include?
When booking through our platform, expect a cleaner who has experience in cleaning both roofs and ground solar panels, the necessary tools for cleaning your source of green energy. They can also provide some solar panel maintenance advice. The goal is to clean your set-up so that it can maximise the light in your area.Â
The details of what your solar panel cleaner can or can’t do may vary, so it’s better to be specific in your task post. In general, though, cleaning solar panels is pretty straightforward. This is what you can expect from your Tasker when you book this service through our platform:Â
Shutdown and equipment set-up
First, your Tasker shuts down the system before they start cleaning. Then, they’ll begin setting up their tool kit. If your panels are installed on the ground, this is easy enough; otherwise, your Tasker goes up on the roof to work there (or to move the panels to ground level). Make sure they have a hose or faucet near the area where you want them to start cleaning.
Note: It’s best to schedule solar panel cleaning early in the day or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat of the day and smeared dirt (from when the water evaporates too quickly while you clean).Â
Solar panel cleaning
Next, your cleaner removes debris, dust, or leaves. Then, they’ll hose down the panels. If your cleaning appointment is scheduled during the colder months, make sure they have access to lukewarm water. Using hot water on cold panels can result in cracks.Â
Once the panels are soaked, your cleaner wipes them with a squeegee, soft brush, or cloth. They should not use detergents or abrasive materials on the modules, since this can damage them. If your panels have oil stains, they may use isopropyl alcohol as a spot cleaner.
Final inspection of solar panelsÂ
After scrubbing the panels, your hired expert gives them a final rinse and squeegees them dry. Since typical mains water is hard (mineral-rich), your Tasker must do this last step very well. Mineral deposits can harden on the panels as they dry. This can cause problems with your panels later on. Once your panels are clean and dry, your cleaner mounts them again, turns on the system, and checks to see if they work well. After that, they’ll be on their way.
