What does a tailor do?
This service covers tailoring, clothing alterations, and sometimes even repair for different kinds of garments. This includes men’s suits, women’s coats, trousers, wedding dresses, and even down jackets. In the case of made-to-measure and bespoke tailoring, your wardrobe will show off your personality and fit your lifestyle in a way that off-the-rack can’t match.

Alteration tailor near you
Most tailoring work includes altering a garment to fit you better. If you plan to get an off-the-rack item and take it to clothing alterations near you, it’s best to choose a size that fits the widest point of your body. From there, your local tailor will take in or cinch the rest of the item. Tailors can also make sleeves or pant legs slimmer, adjust the straps and bust darts of a dress, shorten the sleeves of a shirt, add the lining, and add buttons or hook-and-eye clasps.
On the other hand, a tailor cannot make a garment bigger or longer. They also can’t fix a bad shoulder fit on a jacket or coat. Also, it is inadvisable to let out the stitches in fabrics like linen, cotton, and silk, since holes will show.
Clothing repair
Most local tailors near you can also repair clothing. This can mean fixing a zipper, stopping a hem from fraying, repairing a rip, or reweaving a hole.
