What does a timber floor installation service include?
From installation to repairs and polishing, flooring experts are dedicated to helping you enhance the beauty and functionality of your home. When you book a service on Airtasker, you can expect comprehensive assistance for the following:
Floorboard selection
Are you uncertain which floorboards will best suit your space? Count on your Tasker for expert guidance. Sorting through the plethora of options available can overwhelm you, especially if you're short on time to conduct thorough research. Your Tasker can provide a confident recommendation tailored to your needs.
Area preparation
Before your new floor can be laid, installers must first prepare the area. The underlying floor has to be dry, clean, and stable for the best results. Installers will approach this step depending on the subfloor materials and the type of floorboards. At this stage, all skirting boards, doors, and door frames will also be removed. Finally, timber floorboards will be left to acclimatise as they need to adjust to the room’s temperature and moisture levels to prevent warping and shrinkage.Â
Timber flooring installation
The installation begins with your Tasker laying out moisture-proofing and insulation materials, which should help reduce noise and regulate the house’s temperature. Once the insulation is in place, they can start installing the new boards. The installation process will vary depending on the material of the boards. Solid timber floors require a substructure, while engineered boards can be laid directly over tiles, concrete or other wooden boards. Installers usually install new boards parallel to the longest length of the room or perpendicular to the front door to get the best visual effect.
Afterwards, they will plan the layout to keep the variations in the timber evenly distributed. They’ll glue or nail your floorboards in place, leaving a small gap around the perimeter for expansion, which they will later cover with skirting boards.
Cutting and shaping
Once the bulk of the floor is laid, the installer will carefully measure, cut and fit smaller board sections around corners, cabinets and doorways. This ensures a seamless finish that perfectly aligns with the overall design.
Timber floor polish and coating
Solid floorboards may need to be sanded to remove any scratches or imperfections and then painted with a high-quality polish to restore their shine. A protective coating will be applied as a final step to seal the wood to make it resistant to wear and tear. It is recommended to have your floors serviced regularly for timber floor polish and coat to maintain their beauty and durability, prolonging their lifespan while keeping them looking new.
Timber flooring repairs and restoration
Over time, wooden floors may sustain damage from various factors such as water spills, furniture scratches and dirt. Minor damage can often be fixed by refinishing the surface with light sanding, a new coat of sealant and polishing. For more extensive structural damage, consult a floor repair specialist to assess and correctly fix the problem.

Remove existing timber deck and relay
$400
St Kilda VIC, Australia
6th Nov 2020
This job is to carefully lift existing black butt decking boards and relay the same boards with larger fasteners. The deck was installed using Camo hidden fasteners which are installed on the edge of each board on a 45 degree angle and into the bearer. The boards have moved over winter and in many cases have lifted off the deck. All the boards need to be completely lifted, the Camo screws removed (with minimal damage to boards) and then the same boards reinstalled with 75mm bugle screws (supplied) with the board spaced appropriately with approx 25mm gaps between each board. Bugles to be countersunk to allow for sanding. The deck is approx 10m x 5 m. I have made a small start and it’s not difficult - just a bit fiddly. I reckon a days labour at a reasonable pace.
Nice work Dave
