What do linoleum flooring services include?

Linoleum flooring services include all the activities necessary to place a linoleum floor. Floorers can apply lino flooring to most indoor rooms, including kitchens and dining areas.

This service can include:

  • Floor and linoleum preparation
  • Fitting the lino flooring
  • Laying the lino flooring
  • Fixing the lino flooring onto the floor with adhesive

Checking the room and floor

Before preparing the lino, floorers can check that the floor is clean, dry and level. Ideally, the room and floor should be ready for the floorers to measure, cut, and apply the lino flooring. But if the floor needs cleaning and levelling, some floorers can do these tasks as well.

The room must also be clear of any furnishings, fixtures, and doors. If the room is not prepared, some floorers can clear out appliances, furniture and fixtures, remove doors off their hinges, and temporarily remove floor trims or toilets if necessary. Note that such extensive room clearing and preparation may require an additional budget. If you need more help with other areas of home renovation, finding a roofing expert or handyman near you is just a click away.

Applying underflooring

If the floor of the room isn’t level, floorers can install underflooring or underlayment. Depending on the type of floor, this can consist of laying down sheets of plywood, or in the case of concrete floors, chiselling or grinding down bumps and uneven surfaces with tools. Some floorers may offer this as part of the service.

Measuring the needed material

Once the room is ready, floorers measure the floor to determine the amount of material needed. Floorers can lay down a large sheet of sturdy paper, mark the edges of the walls, then use this as a template to cut out the appropriate shape and amount of lino. They can also do this by using a tape measure to determine the floor’s exact dimensions, then cut out the lino according to the measurements.

Acclimating the linoleum

Lino flooring is a very temperature-sensitive material. If the room and the floor are too cold, this can cause the lino sheet to shrink or warp, resulting in inaccurate measurements and may necessitate floorers to start over. To prevent this, floorers cut the lino in excess of the measurement. Floorers can also check that the room temperature is at least 20℃. They place the lino on the floor without adhesive and leave it for at least 24 hours to acclimate to the room’s temperature.

Laying and glueing the lino

After the 24-hour acclimation, floorers lay down the lino. They need to do this carefully, avoiding creases when positioning the lino flooring. They then apply adhesive to the underside or the lino flooring’s edges, following the instructions and requirements.

Finishing the lino floor

Your hired floorers finish the lino flooring using a heavy roller to push out any air bubbles that may have developed as the adhesive cures. They also apply a linoleum sealant to provide your new lino flooring with a protective layer.Â
