What does landscaping include?
When you book your landscaper, it’s important to let them know in your task exactly what work you need to be done - from simple maintenance services to a complex landscape design for your outdoors. That way, they’ll be able to make you a fair offer and bring along the right tools for the job.Â
Not sure where to start? If you need a range of general landscaping services, grab a notepad and pen, then go for a wander outside. Make a note of anything that needs tidying up, trimming, or removing. Then make sure you include these tasks in your listing.Â
Another way to think about your landscaping is to break it down by the type of specialised skill or service you need, such as installing a water feature or irrigation system, designing garden beds, or planning the landscape of your pool area. Here are some of the jobs you might give to your landscaper and what you can expect to happen during the process.
Planning
When you’re undertaking a BIG change, it’s important to lay the groundwork with some planning first. A garden designer will help come up with ideas and map everything out on paper before you get started on your garden space makeover. Or you might hire a landscape architect to plan a larger commercial landscaping project in your local community or public outdoor space.
Earth and rocks
Don’t break your back over your backyard landscaping - no matter how little or how much you need to do. You can hire earthmoving contractors to do your trench digging, levelling, and even your pool excavation or boring excavation. They’ll bring the all tools and equipment needed to dig and move the earth so you (literally) don’t have to get your hands dirty.
Gardens
Planning a nice new garden bed to grow your own veggies, flower beds, shady trees, or just want to reduce the amount of ground you have to mow in your yard? Get some help with your garden landscaping and garden edging to get the project off your to-do list and done sooner. That way, you can get on with the fun bit in landscaping - planting!
Water
Where there are plants, there’s water. Make sure your plants get water when they need it (without having to remember to hose) with a drip irrigation system or a sprinkler system installation. Or make your garden more beautiful with a garden pond or water features. Either way, getting your water systems sorted is so much quicker and easier with an extra pair of hands or a landscaper near you who knows what they’re doing.
Trees
Trees are wonderful things, but sometimes, a tree’s gotta go. If you’re not experienced, you should never do chainsawing, stump grinding, wood chipping and mulching, or land clearing yourself. That’s something you should leave up to an experienced landscaper with the right equipment and background to get the job done properly and safely.Â
Building and installations
A big component of landscaping is installing things to make your space more functional and beautiful. Things like retaining walls, artificial grass installation, landscape lighting, or even garden benches to sit on. It’s always best to get a landscaper to help when it involves heavy lifting or specialist equipment. Garden landscapers can help you get your installations done safely and help you start enjoying your space much sooner.

Gardening and Landscaping for front yard
$1,500
Flynn ACT 2615, Australia
11th Jan 2025
Hey there! I am looking for a gardening or landscaper to help me with the front garden. I have some ideas in mind currently which I have divided the front into 3 areas, front grass, middle section for a garden which I hope to get a retaining wall put in (have supply of the bricks already) and another section of grass. I would love some help with flattering the areas and cleaning it up so that it is ready for grass and new plants. I have supply of the retaining wall bricks and some hedges already planted. Looking for someone experienced who can also help with plant recommendations for the middle part of the garden. Outcomes I am seeking: - Top part of the garden stripped and levelled ready for planting grass seeds - Middle section of the garden weeded - Bottom part of the garden levelled and/or stripped and levelled ready for (re)planting. Bad dirt removed. - Retaining wall built (two blocks high) for the top part of the garden (bricks supplied if additional required I will purchase them) with gravel for drainage underneath - Retaining wall built (two blocks high) for bottom part of the garden with gravel for drainage - Edging so the grass doesn’t grow into the hedges or the middle garden bed - Excess green waste or excess bad dirt removal if required (CSG is 5 minutes from my place with free green waste disposal) If this sounds like something you can do let me know 😊 Thanks for looking! Type of gardening: Weeding, Garden cleanup Size of garden: 150m²-200m² Has green waste bin: Yes

$200
Dickson ACT, Australia
26th Dec 2024
I need someone to weed, fill and mulch my garden beds. It’s all gotten a bit out of control and I need some help getting the weeds under control. I think laying some weed matting or a better mulch should help. I’ll order supplies from bunnings and get them delivered so that cost won’t be in your fee.
Beautiful work by Karen and care for what I’m trying to achieve. Thanks a million!!
Quick aerate, top soil, level & reseed of back lawn
$1,200
Red Hill ACT, Australia
20th Dec 2024
Need someone to urgently pre-Xmas help fix up my back lawn. Had a big tree removed during the week and it’s left some big holes and uneven terrain! Hoping someone can urgently give the lawn a quick aeration, pickup and spread some topsoil, level/flatten it out where the holes from the stump removal are, and then do a quick overseed. Would like it done this weekend so that we have a flat area for cricket/soccer on Xmas day. I will pay you separately for the cost of the topsoil & seed but you need to arrange it. Thanks. Type of gardening: Other Size of garden: 50m²-100m² Has green waste bin: Yes

Chainsaw a felled eucalypt tree into firewood
$150
Curtin ACT, Australia
30th Oct 2024
We've cut down a pretty big ~30 yo ironbark eucalypt tree in our backyard but don't have the chainsaw or skills to cut the tree up into firewood sized pieces. We'd appreciate help to do this. You don't need to cart it away - we'd just like it cut up and stacked by our back fence.
Andrew was excellent - hardworking, efficient, friendly and communicated openly about all aspects of the job. I'd highly recommend him to others and wouldn't hesitate to ask for his help again.

Yardwork - moving topsoil
$480
Gordon ACT, Australia
2nd Oct 2024
We have about 3.5m3 of topsoil we need moved up to the back of our yard. We're almost finished doing it ourselves but have run out of time). We have a mini loader ('Kanga Kid') and 2 conveyor belts (hired). Basically, our yard is sloped and the top soil is at the front of the house. So, one person drives the mini loader to pick up the dirt and tip it onto the conveyor belt, it then falls onto the second conveyor belt and dirt falls into a wheelbarrow on the top level of the yard and that second person tips the dirt in piles where needed (would also be good to have it raked out but if there isn't enough time that's fine). See pics for how it's been working. We're about halfway done at the top level now so it should only take a couple of hours - max 3 hours. The conveyor belts were temporarily moved so they will need to be moved back so people will need to be able to lift 45kg each (the heaviest one is 90kg). Only thing you need to bring is your own gloves for pulling the dirt forward when it falls in the wheelbarrow) and to be able to operate a mini loader with relative ease. Not a hard of overly onerous job. Would prefer two people who are able to come to our place first thing tomorrow to get it finished in the morning but its a very late notice task so early afternoon is fine too. It's a straight forward and not too onerous task, but short notice and would like it done quickly so we're willing to pay $80/hr per person including fees. Priority is for people who can arrive here in the morning.
RV and his friend were fantastic. My husband and I ran out of time to do some yard work which was moving 3.5m3 of topsoil with a mini loader and 2 conveyors (sloped yard). They arrived on time in the morning and got it done. Recommend :)
