What does a mechanic service usually include?
Mechanics are skilled in nearly all aspects of keeping your car maintained, serviced, and repaired, so it’s roadworthy and efficient to run. The exact process during your service will depend on how your mechanic prefers to work and the type of tasks they’re doing, like:
Minor service
This is the most basic engine service a mechanic provides, but it can make a huge difference in whether or not your car can operate efficiently. A minor service usually alternates with a major service, at around the 6-month mark. A mechanic near you can do minor services because your mechanic only needs a flat service to get the job done. Log book servicing / major service
A major service or log book service involves a series of steps in line with your vehicle manufacturer’s service manual. It’ll include a combination of major and minor services, depending on the age of your car, or how many kilometres it’s travelled. Your service may include testing your lights, brakes, and battery. Then checking fluid levels, windscreen wipers, windows, mirrors, steering, suspension, radiator, fan belts, and tyre pressure. Finally, it may also include maintaining/replacing oil filters, hoses, belts, tyres, and wheel alignment. Your mechanic will finish off by stamping your logbook to record the services completed, which can help maintain your car’s resale value.
Roadworthy certificate or pink slip
A roadworthy certificate or pink slip is a specific vehicle check that’s conducted to ensure your car is in a roadworthy condition and can be operated safely. In some states, it’s required when selling a car or may be required each year to confirm your vehicle is safe for registration purposes. A mechanic will check off a list of predetermined items to verify that your car meets a minimum safety standard set out by your state government. They’ll focus on safety, checking things like tyres, brakes, steering, suspension, rust or damage, seatbelts, windows, lights, and your windscreen.
Major and minor repairs
Sometimes your car might need a little extra attention if you’ve had an accident, broken down, or your drive feels a bit different to normal. I am thinking of purchasing a second hand car from Facebook marketplace but I need a Mechanic to check over the car before I feel comfortable purchasing. Would require something to go out to the car and check it out. The car is located in Brighton East and is a 2017 Volkswagen Golf TSI. Need hatchback Corolla towed to mechanic between 17/2-21/2. Car has flat battery - is also unregistered and needs roadworthy done so cannot be driven to mechanic even if it is jump started. Have a clutch master cylinder that I thought I’d be able to install on my car but unbolting the hard line from the original has proven to be difficult / impossible with the tools I have. Can’t go drive to get more tools because my car won’t go into gear as the clutch master cylinder appears to be dead. I’ve got the OEM part ready to be installed just can’t get the old one out. There’s one hard line one bolt attached to the fire wall and one bolt attached to the fire wall you need to get under the car for. I live in an apartment so it’ll be working in an apartment complex I’ve got jacks. Also need the clutch bled after installation - I’ve got DOT4 fluid and a bleeder kit.
