Help renovating a bathroom
£8,000
Leyton, Greater London, E10
2nd Jul 2024
Hello! We’re Matt and LucÃa and we’re in the process of buying our first property in Leyton, London, which we’re hoping to renovate as soon as we have the keys! We have some ideas in mind already, and we’re looking for quotes for our proposed project - any advice would also be much appreciated! The initial scope of the work would be: Removing the existing downstairs bathroom and internal wall Extending the upstairs toilet into a full master bathroom by taking space from the small room Adding a downstairs toilet and shower by taking space from the dining room Please see the images to get a better idea of what we’re hoping to achieve (sorry for the poor quality)! We’re pretty hands-on people and hoping to do as much of the work as possible to make it cheaper, but obviously we’ll need help doing the professional bits such as plumbing, wiring etc. We’re also keen to choose all the materials that we need for the project. If you think you could help us with this project, and give us an estimate of the costs, please do get in touch! If needed we’ll be able to book another viewing so you can get a better idea of the work required. Thanks a lot for reading! Matt and LucÃa

Top Bathroom Designers related questions
The short and easy answer is yes, but this depends on a few factors. You can install a bathroom in any space in your home as long as you can afford it, and its placement doesn’t interrupt the flow of human traffic nor cause any safety issues. The placement also depends on the electrical and plumbing layout in your home and the size and style of the bathroom design you want.Â
This can vary from Tasker to Tasker, but it mostly depends on your bathroom design itself. If the plan involves installing new fixtures and a fresh coat of paint in one bathroom, this can take a couple of days. But if your design is more complex and calls for installing a new bathtub, taps and tiles in several bathrooms, expect the service to take a couple of weeks. Consult your Tasker to give you an estimate.Â
Never do the job yourself when you can hire experts to do the work, especially if it calls for complicated tasks. Never start remodelling without a plan or hiring a designer. Don’t buy expensive fixtures when simple, cheaper ones can do the job. Try to have fixtures repaired before considering replacement, and remember to ensure your bathroom still gets enough light and ventilation even after the remodel.Â
Yes, but we recommend that you still hire a bathroom designer. The software can give you an idea of how your desired design can look, but it may not account for your budget, safety standards, building codes and best practices. You should hire a bathroom designer on Airtasker as they can create a design that fits your needs and budget and complies with all the relevant building codes, rules and regulations.Â
Yes. Part of a bathroom designer’s expertise is applying design principles to small spaces. No bathroom is too small or too large for the most skilled and experienced designers. You can find the right one to work in your bathroom, even a small one, on Airtasker. You may be surprised to discover that your hired Tasker can come up with not just one or two but several possible designs for your small bathroom.Â
Simple DIY fixes like changing the tap or replacing a broken tile are easy enough to do yourself. But if you plan on having an extensive redesign or bathroom renovation, you’d best hire a professional bathroom designer. They can create designs that suit your tastes and comply with building codes, state regulations and safety standards, all while keeping within your budget. Â

What do bathroom designer services include?
Bathroom designer services include all the necessary tasks to redesign an existing bathroom or design a new bathroom following your tastes, needs and budget. Your hired bathroom designer can provide you with a design-only service where they create the design, then turn it over to you and your hired team of builders.Â
You can also opt for a full-service contract where they provide the design, then work as your project manager to implement your bathroom design. Â
Assessing the site
To know which designs and structural changes are possible, your hired bathroom designer inspects the site. They can check the existing structure, materials, colours, furniture and fixtures. Your Tasker can also take exact measurements of the space and check the blueprints to see the layout of the electrical wiring, pipes and other underlying structures. Your designer may also need to work with a plumber to choose the appropriate sinks and access the piping.Â
Planning the layout & design
After they’ve inspected the site, they can plan the layout and design for the existing or new bathroom. Your hired Tasker can develop bathroom designs according to your needs and tastes while staying within the budget. Â
They also make sure the designs comply with building codes, safety regulations and established industry standards. Bathroom designers can come up with several design options based on these parameters. Â
Procuring materials & labour
Your bathroom designer can get all the necessary materials, tools, fixtures and pieces of furniture. This can include getting the right amount of paint in the colour of your choice as well. They can also hire the needed contractors and builders, or even bathroom decorators to work on your chosen bathroom design.
Implementing the design
As your project manager, your hired bathroom designer can present you with a list of tasks and the time allotted to complete each task. Once you approve the timelines, work can proceed on the site. Your build team can do various bathroom design tasks like changing light fixtures, changing tiles, installing new showerheads, installing a new bathtub or shower enclosure, and painting the walls.Â
During the build, your bathroom designer can supervise the work and check the quality of the builders’ craftsmanship. They can inspect each item on the list of tasks and redo the job if they are not up to code or meet industry standards. Now that your new bathroom is finished, you can hire a separate service to do site cleanup. Why not get the entire house cleaned up as well?Â
