What do flooring services include?
Professional flooring installation means more than just a floor that looks good. Your flooring contractor will make sure your floors are safe, slip-free, and will last decades by using the best preparation and installation methods. Some popular flooring options include: Concrete flooring Concrete floors are becoming more popular for their durability - not just in garages and sheds, but inside the home, as well.
Concrete Floors
A concrete flooring professional can install new concrete floors, or change the look of your existing floors with concrete polishing and epoxy coatings to add colour and texture to your floor. Depending on what you need done, they may work with concrete, a mixer, a grinder, and floor polish or epoxy to protect and seal the floor.
Carpet
When installing carpets, you’ll first need the old carpet removed. Carpet removal can be a dusty, heavy job, so your carpet specialist will use crowbars to lift the carpet and knives to cut the carpet into sections. They’ll wear durable gloves to protect their hands when they lift and roll the carpet. If the insulation or underfelt is in good condition, you may be able to lay the new carpet directly on top. Your contractor will measure out the right size for your new carpet, before cutting it out and rolling it in place. They’ll use a knee kicker to push the carpet firmly into the edges and corners of your room, trimming the excess carpet.
Floorboards
While timber floorboards might be a higher maintenance option, floating floors come with many benefits, with a huge range of styles. And they’re relatively easy to repair if one board gets chipped or damaged. Your flooring contractor can advise you on environmentally friendly options, such as bamboo and cork floorboards, as well. Floorboard installation starts with clearing the area before wooden struts are positioned to create a framework for the boards to sit on. At this point, you can choose to install soundproof insulation under your bamboo floorboards or timber floorboards to help reduce noise. Then your contractor will install your timber floorboards over the wooden struts. Once your new floor is installed, you can keep it looking it’s best with regular polishing and refinishing.
Tiled floors
Tiles are popular for bathroom flooring, or throughout the whole house for easy cleaning. Tile floor installation involves laying marble, stone, or ceramic tiles on the floor. When installing tiles, your flooring professional will usually first remove the existing flooring. This may require tools such as a jackhammer or a chisel and hammer to break up and lift the old tiles. Then they’ll prepare the area with adhesives and concrete, before laying the tiles. Once the adhesive has set, your tiler will apply grout in the gaps between each tile, creating a waterproof surface.
Laminate, vinyl & linoleum flooring
Getting your vinyl, linoleum, or laminate floors professionally installed usually starts with removing any old floor coverings and skirting boards. Laminate flooring is usually easy to remove but may require chemical solvents, depending on the adhesives used. Once the area is cleared, the floors will be levelled and prepared with any underlay and insulation required. At this stage, your flooring contractor may add in things like waterproofing or underfloor heating. Hello!! I was going to wait until next spring, but I truly CANNOT stand my floor anymore, the old dirty beige carpet really isn't doing it for me and I'm finally ready to take the plunge – it is time to say goodbye! I intend to remove the carpet myself, however I'm looking for someone (with much stronger muscles than mine) to help me out with sanding the wooden floor underneath. I will be hiring a floor sander for the occasion, unless you have your own equipment in which case the hiring fee will go straight to you (in addition to the original fee). But only if you have a large floor sander, NOT a hand one! The room in question is my reception room and measures approximatively 4x6m (24sqm). I'm not much of an expert, but I'd say it would take up to a full day to sand the room to an acceptable standard. I'm renting so I'm not too fussed about doing a perfect job, I just want wooden floors! PLEASE. I will take care of all the floor preparation beforehand, and I will also apply the varnish afterwards. I really only need you to use the floor sander as I'm worried the machine is too powerful and heavy for me to move around for hours! I understand my budget isn't ideal for someone with years of experience, but sadly it can't be extended at this time so please leave this opportunity to someone else if you find it too low. A respectful note from my bank account : all higher quotes will kindly be ignored. Drinks and food will be provided to my saviour throughout.
