Top PVC Windows related questions

In the United Kingdom, the price of uPVC window repair and replacement can go from £20 to £3,000, depending on the complexity of the issue, size of your window, replacement parts needed, and other factors. Meanwhile, double glazing can cost £55 to £300.

It can take a few hours to a whole day, depending on the severity of your concern, the condition of your window, and the window size.

For minor concerns like small holes and scratches, it’s possible. But bigger concerns like severe damages should be solved by a specialist. Doing serious repairs yourself can lead to danger or even create additional repair costs in the future.

The benefits of hiring someone skilled and experienced also roots from their ability to not only troubleshoot accurately, but also their trusted judgment in picking the right materials, and applying a strategy that can maintain or extend the lifespan of your windows, and not just restoring to band-aid solutions.

The material properties of uPVC windows make them more energy-efficient, UV-resistant, and better at thermal insulation compared to aluminium windows. They also require minimal upkeep and are budget-friendly. Meanwhile, aluminium windows are known to have non-corrosive properties, making them more durable. They also have smaller and slimmer profiles.

You don’t need to prepare your own equipment as your hired expert already has the right arsenal for your concern. Just make sure to properly communicate with them in case new parts or more specialised tools and materials are needed.

Before your Tasker’s arrival, you can just ensure a convenient working area without obstructions, distractions, kids, pets, and other sensitive elements around.

If well taken care of, uPVC windows can last around 20 to 30 years.

It’s good to regularly clean your uPVC windows using a damp cloth, warm water, and mild soap or non-abrasive detergent. Occasional lubrication in the moving parts and locks, plus ensuring proper ventilation are also great ways to prolong their quality.

What do uPVC window repairs near me include?

Homeowners who prioritise low-maintenance living, cost-efficiency, and environmentally-friendly choices are most likely to choose uPVC windows for their spaces for the long run. uPVC windows also help with noise reduction, insulation from unpleasant elements such as intense heat and pollen, and reduced water vapour. Some also pair them with double glazing, further boosting security and energy efficiency. They may look intimidating, but they’re relatively easy to use and stylish to boot!

This is why it’s a must to keep them well-maintained. And in case they act up, there’s no need to replace them immediately. With Airtasker, you can let skilled and experienced Taskers take on the tough job, from inspection to problem-solving to major repairs. After all, leaving your uPVC windows in poor condition can eventually break down especially with U.K.’s extreme weather. Of course, it will lose its ability to insulate, affecting your home’s energy efficiency. Broken uPVC windows are also a threat to your safety.

In the United Kingdom, here are the most common types of uPVC window repairs:

Frame repairs

Spotted some small scratches, dents, and holes on your window frames? Your Tasker can fix them through different ways like utilising epoxy, specialised adhesives, brass cleaners, and other solutions. For more major repairs—like missing sections and obvious warping—it’s best to consult a professional too so they can perform the accurate troubleshooting.

Dealing with broken glass? Your Tasker can also do reglazing, where they can replace the glass without changing the whole window frame.More severe cases may require a complete uPVC window replacement.

Seal repairs

If you’re experiencing headaches over fogging seals around the glass panes, apparent light gaps in the edges, unusual cold air coming in, and significantly higher energy bills, your seals may already be damaged. Noticing peels and tears also calls for a serious fix! Broken seals can come from improper window installation, exposure to extreme weather fluctuations, moisture, and normal ageing. Tip: Struggling with your window’s hardware—like not being able to properly close or open the windows—can be a sign of damaged seals as well.

Good news is your hired Tasker can attend to these concerns. They will properly remove the damaged seal, thoroughly clean the area, pick the right seal, and apply it accurately, including the hard-to-reach corners that need more attention.

Weather stripping uPVC windows? You don’t have to do it on your own, too! Your booked specialist has the ability to inspect air leaks, cut the weatherstripping strips following the right measurement, and more. Weatherstripping can reduce heating and cooling costs by around 5% to 20%.

Aside from uPVC window repair near you, the platform can help you get in touch with Taskers skilled to fix other parts of your house, such as doors, sinks, and staircases, among others.

Fix uPVC window latches and install new handle

£50

Battersea, Greater London, SW11

28th Jan 2025

We have three uPVC windows that aren’t closing properly. One just doesn’t close fully, and I can’t work out what’s jamming it. The other has a latch that seems to have come loose? On the third, the handle on one has broken, so we’ve taken it out. I ordered new handles but the spindle was too long - it almost looks like someone DIY’ed a shorter one to fit previously? I would like to find someone who can advise me about which handle to order, then once it arrives can come and put the new handle in and fix the other window latches/hinges. It is possible the previous owner did a little DIY work on the handle. Thinking it should be pretty simple for anyone who knows what they are doing, but I am happy to discuss the quote in more detail later, if it is more complicated than expected.

Replace a UPVC window handle (old one has stripped screw)

£40

Collier's Wood, Greater London, SW19

20th Oct 2024

Trying to replace a UPVC handle, however the handle snapped off the old one and one of the screws attaching it to the window is totally stripped. I tried using screw extractor (although a cheap one), tried grabbing it with pliers but haven’t had any luck getting the old handle off. I need someone with more experience removing a pretty badly stripped screw, then attaching the new handle
