It all depends on your goals, budget, and learning style. Ideally, it would be best if you had a mixture of both. Private lessons offer personalised coaching so you can progress at your own pace. It also allows your Tasker to give you individualised attention so they can focus on giving you tips and necessary corrections. Step patterns and basic techniques are best acquired in group classes and working with various partners. 

You should wear comfortable pieces of clothing. A flowing skirt, T-shirt, and loose pants can help you move seamlessly and allow for a wide range of motion. Prepare shoes that are clean and comfy, preferably with thin, smooth soles and short heels. You can also bring a bottle of water to keep you hydrated throughout your ballroom dance lessons.
