What do sewing machine repair services include?

The sewing machine repair services include all that’s needed to restore your sewing machine to working order. This involves inspecting the sewing machine and all its moving parts. Your handyman may partially disassemble the machine to find the cause of the problem and repair it.

After fixing the issue, they can clean out and lubricate the parts. Once your handyman finishes servicing your sewing machine, they can test the machine by sewing thread on scrap cloth.

Inspecting the parts

Your handyman first disconnects the electronic sewing machine from the electrical outlet. Then, they partially disassemble the sewing machine to inspect the bobbin, gears, needle assembly, and other hidden moving parts. They can check other items that can cause issues like the type and quality of the thread, the type of needle used, and how the thread is placed in the bobbin.

Fixing the problem

As your handyman inspects the parts, they compare the performance of your sewing machine to reasonable operating standards. They usually look for issues like a broken or bent needle, gummed up or crystallized machine oil in the internal parts. Another common cause is an inferior thread that is unraveling or has unraveled and locked up the machine. Your handyman can also check if the wrong needle was used.

Cleaning & lubricating the parts

Once repaired, your handyman cleans the machine’s internal parts. This step includes the bobbin tray and feed dogs. They can clean out dust, lint, clumps of thread and gummed up or crystallized machine oil with a can of compressed air.

They may also use a fine brush and a lint-free cloth to wipe off dirt, without disturbing the delicate electronics. After cleaning, your handyman may apply a tiny amount of sewing machine oil to the moving parts. Note that not all sewing machine models need lubrication; they may not do this for your sewing machine.

Testing the sewing machine

After your handyman has repaired the sewing machine, cleaned and oiled it as prescribed by your sewing machine’s manual, they can test the machine. If problems still arise, they can try to find and resolve the issue. If the problem persists after several attempts or the issue is with the electronics, take the machine to an accredited sewing machine shop.
