Why book a local carpenter through Airtasker?
Carpentry plays a massive part in building and construction. From the chairs we sit on to the homes we live in, so much of what we interact with has gone through the hands of a carpenter at one point.
Carpenters can help with different types of construction work and projects of all sizes. If you’re building an extension or adding a carport to your home, an experienced carpenter can create a frame that’s built to last and meets all council regulations.
On the other hand, if you’re looking at the finer details of your home, a carpenter can be of great assistance too. From small detailing like replacing skirting boards or wall frames to refurbishing your dining table and chairs, hiring a skilled labourer can make all the difference.

Carpenters or chippies work with wood in all manner of ways. From timber framing for a house or carport to the finishing touches on furniture, carpenters are hired for jobs large and small.
Not all carpenters offer the same services. An experienced cabinet maker may not be the best choice if you want timber framing done, while a decking expert may not have the credentials to refurbish your furniture. It's advisable to choose a Tasker who has adequate work experience in the specific job of your request.
Yes. While some carpenters have specific areas of expertise, you can employ someone to do a number of small woodworking jobs in one visit. This can be the same job in a number of rooms or different jobs throughout the house. Remember though that some carpentry jobs require more than one day to complete.
From specific tasks such as cabinet maker to more general terms like artisan, joiner, or woodworker, there are plenty of variations for carpentry workers. Depending on their specialty and level of training, you may find that a carpenter comes under a different name. A carpenter with advanced skills and experience can be referred to as a master carpenter. Someone working on assembling moulds and concrete structures for large-scale construction is called a formwork carpenter.Â
In Australia, certified carpenters will have normally completed a Certificate III in Carpentry and Joinery (or higher certification), or a similar course through TAFE, and an apprenticeship. You may find that older carpenters learned their skills through a traineeship. Carpenters working on construction sites must also have a Construction Induction Card (white card).
For certain types of carpentry tasks, you may need to enquire as to what specialist licenses may be required to undertake your task as this can vary. Please make sure that you confirm that a Tasker has the relevant licence and insurance before accepting an offer.

What do carpenters do?
Whether you’re planning a major renovation on your home or you simply want to make things look a bit nicer, hiring a carpenter or chippy can help you with many different tasks. Carpenters use different types of power tools and hand tools to carry on building and construction work.Â
Carpentry work is generally broken down into two types: rough and finish. Rough carpentry refers to work that doesn’t have an intricate look, as it’s covered up – often by bricks, tiles, or plaster work. Finish carpentry covers the work that will be on display, so needs to have a nicer finish. Furniture, decking, and window frames all fall into this second category.Â
Decking
Many Australian homes are blessed with a large backyard and plenty of sunny hours to enjoy that space. A decking specialist can add an outdoor deck or upgrade an existing one that opens up your outdoor space. This is great if you want to entertain guests or eat outside as a family during the sunny months.Â
Cabinet making
Cabinet makers are one example of finish carpentry, because of the high level of detail that goes into their end products. Unlike structural work, it’s important that a cabinet looks nice, so this type of carpenter is a lot more focused on fine details. Cabinet makers often specialise in other forms of furniture making too.Â
Refinishing carpentry
While structural carpentry is concerned with jobs on the large end of the scale, trim or refinishing carpentry looks at the small end. A trim carpenter is the way to go if you want someone to fix up your skirting boards, cornicing, or a similar aspect of your home.
Custom made furniture
A house isn’t a home without a few personal touches, and if you’d rather avoid the cookie-cutter Ikea approach to decorating your property, hiring a carpenter to create custom-made furniture can make you stand out. Whether you want chairs, tables, or a shoe rack, there’s someone nearby who can help.Â
Joinery
Joinery services encompass the craftsmanship of creating and joining wood in workshops, distinct from on-site carpentry. These services range from bespoke projects to crafting timber buildings, emphasizing precision and passion. Joiners play a crucial role in interior woodwork, window and door production, and specialized construction, offering tailored and quality timber solutions.

It's a reno job. The old kitchen has been removed and walls painted. I am attaching some diagrams for the layout. There are 3 walls, wall height is 2400mm. Longest wall is 3600mm. On this wall is the window and will have the sink. The window edge is 510mm from corner and window length is 1500mm Then comes the wall where a 900mm cooktop and oven will go. Its length is 2475mm. Then comes another wall which is 2000mm in length. Then benchtop will run on all the walls. Wall cabinets will run on all 3 walls. Minus the window area. The rangehood will be a pullout on, meaning storage on top. The size will be 900mm. Cabinet material will be: 16 mm heavy duty particleboard with off white finish. Doors: 18mm E1 MDF with 2 pack glossy white finish Hinges: Soft Closing DTC Hinges. Wall cabinets will be 720mm tall and 320mm in depth. Please ask all the questions and understand the job properly before making an offer. The job is ready, and I would like it to be done soon. Be mindful my stated budget maybe way off the actual cost.
