Xyrus was very punctual which is very important to me. Beyond that he is an extremely polite, knowledgeable and professional individual that was able to work through a custom rebuild and troubleshoot some issues with me for a high end gaming rig. I was more than likely getting in his way as I am trying to learn but he showed great patience with me and taught me a lot about the build. Thanks Xyrus.

What do carpenters do?

Whether you’re planning a major renovation on your home or you simply want to make things look a bit nicer, hiring a carpenter or chippy can help you with many different tasks. Carpenters use different types of power tools and hand tools to carry on building and construction work.

Carpentry work is generally broken down into two types: rough and finish. Rough carpentry refers to work that doesn’t have an intricate look, as it’s covered up – often by bricks, tiles, or plaster work. Finish carpentry covers the work that will be on display, so needs to have a nicer finish. Furniture, decking, and window frames all fall into this second category.

Decking

Many Australian homes are blessed with a large backyard and plenty of sunny hours to enjoy that space. A decking specialist can add an outdoor deck or upgrade an existing one that opens up your outdoor space. This is great if you want to entertain guests or eat outside as a family during the sunny months.

Cabinet making

Cabinet makers are one example of finish carpentry, because of the high level of detail that goes into their end products. Unlike structural work, it’s important that a cabinet looks nice, so this type of carpenter is a lot more focused on fine details. Cabinet makers often specialise in other forms of furniture making too.

Refinishing carpentry

While structural carpentry is concerned with jobs on the large end of the scale, trim or refinishing carpentry looks at the small end. A trim carpenter is the way to go if you want someone to fix up your skirting boards, cornicing, or a similar aspect of your home.

Custom made furniture

A house isn’t a home without a few personal touches, and if you’d rather avoid the cookie-cutter Ikea approach to decorating your property, hiring a carpenter to create custom-made furniture can make you stand out. Whether you want chairs, tables, or a shoe rack, there’s someone nearby who can help.

Joinery

Joinery services encompass the craftsmanship of creating and joining wood in workshops, distinct from on-site carpentry. These services range from bespoke projects to crafting timber buildings, emphasizing precision and passion. Joiners play a crucial role in interior woodwork, window and door production, and specialized construction, offering tailored and quality timber solutions.

Strip paint off a timber door and prep for staining.

$80

Bondi Junction NSW, Australia

12th Jan 2025

I have an old door that has been painted a couple of times. I’d like it stripped down to its original timber so that I can re-stain it. Currently just want to test out how the one door will look with the stain I have in mind, and if I like the look i do have 4 more doors. Current task budget is for one door for now. Tasker will need to take the door off its hinges, bring it outside (it’s a solid pine door and quite heavy - I can help) and have some equipment such as a stand to work on, sander, scrapers etc. I can supply the paint stripper, unless you already have some.

11th Jan 2025

Hi there, I have a TV wall space that I would like to have some custom shelves and cupboards built for. The space is 2680 high, 600 deep and 1970 wide. I’d like 3 cupboards with 2 drawers in each at the bottom. One full length shelf above the TV and one small shelf either side of the TV. First Picture is the best example of what I’m after albeit without the detailing/panelling. Need more modern look. Second is draft sketch and other 2 are the actual space. MDF is fine. Will need it sprayed with colour. Thanks

Use carpentry skills to change the top of this outdoor table.

$5

Coogee, New South Wales

11th Jan 2025

We really like this table which can be extended from a coffee table height to a dinning table (130cm x 76cm). However, we don't love the ceramic top and don't think the style will go with our other furniture. We are wondering if it would be possible to pull off the top boards/stats and replace it with some better quality wood or an artificial material which is better suited. I am not an expert, but I assume it would require removing the old pieces, cutting new ones to size and treating as required, and fixing them appropriating in the place of the old ones. We are thinking Teak would be good, and could use 2 of these cut and sanded to size. https://www.bunnings.com.au/specrite-1800-x-405-x-18mm-golden-teak-acacia-multi-use-panel_p0456516 https://www.remarkablefurniture.com.au/collections/outdoor-coffee-tables/products/clifton-outdoor-ceramic-pop-up-coffee-table-130-cm

Remove old dishwasher + install new one (laminate needs cutting)

$100

Edgecliff NSW 2027, Australia

28th Oct 2024

I need someone to help remove my freestanding dishwasher and connect my new one. The issue is that the kitchen laminate flooring, which may have been installed after the dishwasher, is jamming it and preventing it from being pulled out easily. You may need to cut a small piece of the laminate or find another solution. Since I'll be replacing the flooring soon, it's fine if the laminate is slightly damaged or doesn't look perfect. Once the old dishwasher is out, you'll need to slide the new one in and connect it. Location: Edgecliff Time: Flexible, ideally asap Please bring your own tools

Incredibly efficient, great communication and thorough work! Douglas and Victor arrived at my house basically within 15mins of me posting my job and went above and beyond! Douglas took the time to explain things to me - he is an incredibly professional, warm and friendly person. Highly recommend!
