Enlarge loft hatch and install new ladder

£300

Britwell, Berkshire

29th May 2023

We currently have a square, push-up hatch with no ladder fitted, and I'd like a quote to enlarge the hatch and fit a wooden fold-down ladder. We will likely want new boarding and insulation at some point but I was hoping to just get the hatch done first. Happy to purchase ladder myself from Wickes, B&Q, Costco, etc or happy to let you supply via trade scheme. Budget is my guess at cost including ladder. Happy to send photos if that helps. Thanks, Felix - Due date: Before Saturday, 3 June 2023 - UPDATE ADDING MEASUREMENTS == Current hatch == Inner opening size: 657x657mm excluding stick-on draught seals Frame size: 690x690mm (outer edge to outer edge) Frame thickness: 15mm Hatch inside depth/height: 35mm Hatch architrave thickness: 45mm == Available Space == Floor to ceiling: 231cm Floor to loft level: 243cm (this may be changed in future if more insulation is added) Maximum distance between edge of existing hatch and wall: 133cm Maximum distance between structural roof timber and wall: 144cm Total space between joists: 723mm (310mm + 50cm joist already cut for existing hatch + 363mm)

Small loft clearance

£70

Britwell, Berkshire

19th Feb 2023

I need someone to clear a few items from the loft that include a few off cuts of kitchen worktop, a sink, a small table, a cot assembly kit. The loft has extra insulation added between the beams so you will need to roll back some insulation to find the beams for safe places to tread. It has not been fitted with loft boards which is why I am looking for someone who has experience in lofts to reach the items to remove them. - Due date: Flexible

What does a carpenter do?

Whether you’re planning a major renovation on your home, or you simply want to make things look a bit nicer, hiring a carpenter can help you with many different tasks. Carpenters take on a wide range of work, such as fixing areas of houses and building furniture from scratch.

Carpentry work is generally broken down into two types: rough and finish. Rough carpentry refers to work that doesn’t have an intricate look, as it’s covered up – often by bricks, tiles, or plasterwork. Finish carpentry covers the work that will be on display, so needs to have a nicer finish. Furniture, decking, and window frames all fall into this second category.

Decking

Don't know what to do with all that space in your backyard? Hire a carpenter who specialises in building decks. A decking specialist can add an outdoor deck or upgrade an existing one that opens up your outdoor space. This is great if you want to entertain guests or eat outside as a family during the sunny months.

Cabinet making

Cabinetmakers are one example of finish carpentry, because of the high level of detail that goes into their end products. Unlike structural work, it’s important that a cabinet looks nice, so this type of carpenter is a lot more focused on fine details. Cabinetmakers often specialise in other forms of furniture making too.

Refinishing carpentry

While structural carpentry is concerned with jobs on the large end of the scale, trim or refinishing carpentry looks at the small end. A trim carpenter is the way to go if you want someone to fix up your skirting boards, cornicing, or a similar aspect of your home.

Custom made furniture

A house isn’t a home without a few personal touches, and if you’d rather avoid the cookie-cutter Ikea approach to decorating your property, hiring a carpenter to create custom-made furniture can make you stand out. Whether you want chairs, tables, or a shoe rack, there’s someone nearby who can help.

Joinery

Joinery services encompass the craftsmanship of creating and joining wood in workshops, distinct from on-site carpentry. These services range from bespoke projects to crafting timber buildings, emphasizing precision and passion. Joiners play a crucial role in interior woodwork, window and door production, and specialized construction, offering tailored and quality timber solutions.
