George's quality of work was excellent - he clearly knows his craft. He kept in good communication, worked solidly throughout, cleaned away dust/dirt and unused materials at the end of each day's work, was honest when things didn't go quite as expected, and found solutions when a workaround was needed. I am very pleased with the end product - George is a skilled and experienced carpenter and I would be happy to employ him again.
Carpentry: split u-shape room - build small wall+door frame, fit door

I had scattered burn marks on laminate floor. Michael walked in and knew exactly how to fix them. He talked to me all about the type of flooring, what the problem areas might be and how to avoid them. I was unbelievably impressed with the quality of work. The end product is indistinguishable from the original flooring. Absolutely stellar work. Cannot recommend him enough. If you have any issue with flooring, Michael is your man.

What does a carpenter do?
Whether you’re planning a major renovation on your home, or you simply want to make things look a bit nicer, hiring a carpenter can help you with many different tasks. Carpenters take on a wide range of work, such as fixing areas of houses and building furniture from scratch.
Carpentry work is generally broken down into two types: rough and finish. Rough carpentry refers to work that doesn’t have an intricate look, as it’s covered up – often by bricks, tiles, or plasterwork. Finish carpentry covers the work that will be on display, so needs to have a nicer finish. Furniture, decking, and window frames all fall into this second category.Â
Decking
Don't know what to do with all that space in your backyard? Hire a carpenter who specialises in building decks. A decking specialist can add an outdoor deck or upgrade an existing one that opens up your outdoor space. This is great if you want to entertain guests or eat outside as a family during the sunny months.Â
Cabinet making
Cabinetmakers are one example of finish carpentry, because of the high level of detail that goes into their end products. Unlike structural work, it’s important that a cabinet looks nice, so this type of carpenter is a lot more focused on fine details. Cabinetmakers often specialise in other forms of furniture making too.Â
Refinishing carpentry
While structural carpentry is concerned with jobs on the large end of the scale, trim or refinishing carpentry looks at the small end. A trim carpenter is the way to go if you want someone to fix up your skirting boards, cornicing, or a similar aspect of your home.
Custom made furniture
A house isn’t a home without a few personal touches, and if you’d rather avoid the cookie-cutter Ikea approach to decorating your property, hiring a carpenter to create custom-made furniture can make you stand out. Whether you want chairs, tables, or a shoe rack, there’s someone nearby who can help.
Joinery
Joinery services encompass the craftsmanship of creating and joining wood in workshops, distinct from on-site carpentry. These services range from bespoke projects to crafting timber buildings, emphasizing precision and passion. Joiners play a crucial role in interior woodwork, window and door production, and specialized construction, offering tailored and quality timber solutions.

Replace bath panel and create cover on boiler Bath panel is approximately 167cm x 53cm (best if measured by yourself). Need someone to supply and fit new panel, do some minor silicone work around the bath, and create a better (MDF?) cover to go on top of the boiler than in the picture.

Carpentry: split u-shape room - build small wall+door frame, fit door
£500
Lisson Grove, Greater London
7th Jul 2024
I have a u-shape room and I want to split the area - with a small wall (mostly door frame and door)and two bookcases - to make it two separate rooms. I will buy and build the two bookcases to go on the right-hand side in advance. Then you will need to... (1)remove the part of the skirting board next to where the bookcases will go so the bookcases are flush with the wall; (2) build a stud wall containing a standard-size door frame/architrave between the bookcases and the left-hand wall; (3) fit a standard-size door within the door frame - I will buy a white fully-finished door in advance. Photos 1 and 2 show the actual space that you will be working in, with 2 being a rough outline of what the final product will look like in the space (green is ikea bookshelves, blue is door plus a little bit of wall, red is the wall above the bookshelves and door); photo 3 is a drawing of the same space with measurements; photo 4 is a birds-eye perspective of the area where the building will happen; and photo 5 is a bird's-eye view of a slightly wider area to provide a little context. You can drill into the left-hand wall and the ceiling, and also into the bookcases once they're in place; but not into the right-hand wall. The architrave choice will need to be discussed, but it will be white. The 'wall' needs to be reasonably well insulated for sound (NB not for heat), so please quote for using accoustic roll and/or accoustic plasterboard. The price you quote should exclude cost of the bookshelves and the door. ----- Due date: end of July or first few days of August
Carpentry: build a door frame and a small high cupboard (and fit door)
£500
Lisson Grove, Greater London
10th Sep 2023
I have a u-shape room and I want to put a 'wall' in the opening - consisting of two bookcases and a door - to make it two separate rooms. There will be a couple of Ikea Billy bookcases to go in on the right-hand side of the opening - I will buy and build those in advance - and then I need someone to... (1)remove the part of the skirting board next to where the bookcases will go so the bookcases are flush with the wall; (2) build a standard-size door frame/architrave between the bookcases and the left-hand wall; (3) fit a standard-size door - I will buy a white fully-finished door in advance; and (4) make and fit a storage cupboard ABOVE the door/bookcases, with a horizontal upwards-opening door on both sides - cupboard to be made out of 25mm white melamine-faced MDF. Photo one gives an overview of the space; photo two gives a front perspective from the 'lounge' facing towards the 'bedroom'; and photo three gives a bird's-eye view from the same side. Photos 4 and 5 show the actual space that you will be working in, with 5 being a rough outline of what the final product will look like in the space. You can drill into the left-hand wall and the ceiling, and also into the bookcases once they're in place; but not into the right-hand wall. You'll be able to screw the storage cupboard into the left hand wall (ie I don't mind screws showing on the inside of the cupboard); but I'm anticipating that you'll need to put in dowels between the door frame and/or architrave and the left hand wall (although perhaps you will have a better 'clever way' to attach these). Not sure if putting in a steel lintel above the door frame would be a good idea? Happy to discuss. The architrave choice will need to be discussed, but it will be white. Price you quote should exclude cost of the bookshelves and the door. - Due date: Flexible
